Charles Taylor is a Private Equity-owned successful global provider of professional services to the insurance industry. We are seeking a motivated Senior Tax Accountant to join our US Finance team. This role would suit a first move out of practice or an experienced in-house tax accountant. Location flexible, but must be within reasonable travel distance of a Charles Taylor office in order to deal with paper filings.
Job Description
Summary
Reporting into the North American Director of Financial Reporting and the UK-based Group Head of Tax, we are looking for someone to manage U.S. taxes across the Group’s 24 US legal entities, including corporate, partnership and pass-through entities. Certified Public Accountant Preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage tax notices and response process for all US tax jurisdictions.
- Manage the relationship with our local US tax advisers (Big 4), who prepare US entity and consolidated tax provision workings and tax returns.
- Utilise a variety of financial systems to gather necessary data and support for tax provision and compliance workings.
- Review federal and state tax compliance workpapers and returns for all organizational entities.
- Review quarterly estimate/extension calculations, and co-ordinate payments.
- Maintain documentation and records for both internal and external federal and state audit processes.
- Produce tax workings for US Consolidated Financials (quarterly/annual).
- Gather data for, and draft responses to, federal, state, and local income/franchise tax audits, with the assistance of external advisers where required.
- Prepare and file State Sales & Use Tax filings, and organize payments (limited number of states), including year-end true ups and state nexus questionnaires.
- Prepare and file property tax returns and amendments as needed.
- Prepare 1099 MISC & NEC Reporting and IRS Filings.
- Prepare Tax Balance Sheet account reconciliations and month end tax journal entries for all entities.
- Annual Tax Compilation Reporting – working directly with external advisers to assist in the production of annual financial reporting statements that are used as a tool to share with outside agencies, (entering into new leases, agreements, contracts, etc.)
- Manage the internal tax calendar to ensure all tasks and accurate due dates are stated.
- Keep current with tax changes and industry trends in order to alert management of potential tax opportunities.
- Build cross functional relationships with members of finance, legal, treasury, and other departments in order to gather accurate tax data and drive tax efficiencies and innovation.
- Make recommendations for tax process improvements and efficiency savings.
Education And Experience
- 5 years in public accounting, corporate tax department, or other equivalent experience.
- Must have a general knowledge of US and state tax laws and regulations.
Knowledge And Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses And/or Training
- Experience in federal, state and local tax laws involving corporate and flow-through entities.
- Experience in analysing and calculating book/tax differences.
- Experience with state apportionment and multi-state returns.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and other MS Office products (Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong business writing skills and strong oral communication skills.
- Ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and complete assigned tasks to by established deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to interact in a positive manner with other employees in the Finance team, outside advisors and auditors.
- Ability to work independently in a remote work environment.
- Corporate transactions experience a bonus.
