Job Description

5th Grade Math and Science Teacher

Charleston Collegiate School seeks a dynamic and innovative 5th Grade Math and Science Teacher who is passionate about fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on, project-based learning (PBL). This educator will design engaging, interdisciplinary lessons that encourage students to explore real-world applications of math and science while nurturing their social-emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement a rigorous, standards-based math and science curriculum that integrates PBL, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on experimentation.
  • Emphasize collaboration and communication skills, encouraging teamwork and thoughtful discussion in STEM learning.
  • Monitor and assess student progress using a variety of data-driven methods, providing timely feedback and targeted support.
  • Partner with colleagues to align curriculum, integrate interdisciplinary projects, and share best practices.
  • Communicate regularly with families to celebrate student growth and address challenges.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, fostering confidence and independence in problem-solving.
  • Incorporate CCS’s core values—empathy, integrity, community, optimism, and advocacy—into daily instruction and classroom culture.
  • Leverage the school’s outdoor campus to create experiential learning opportunities that connect math and science concepts to the natural world.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that promotes curiosity, resilience, and a love for learning.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to the collaborative faculty culture at CCS.

Qualifications 


  • College Degree (minimum Bachelors) 
  • Good working knowledge of Google Suite
  • Efficient typing, email, database, spreadsheet, and internet skills 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and get along with co-workers and management  
  • Ability to maintain regular and timely attendance  
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, problem-solve, and manage multiple projects
  • Ability to present a professional image as a representative of the School  
  • Current in advanced First-aid training or equivalent
