This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the education programs within the detention center. Duties include, but are not limited to: developing new curricula across a range of disciplines in a secure detention facility, authorizing textbook acquisitions for the in-house library, helping establish criteria and standards for selection of candidates into the education program, networking, building and maintaining professional relationships with members of the facility, students and the community; monitoring the progress of new and existing instructional methods to include virtual and in-person, facilitates post-secondary education in vocational and occupationally oriented areas, conferring with teachers, students and detention staff concerning educational and behavioral initiatives in the program and other duties as assigned. This position performs a significant amount of work that requires imagination to motivate students to learn, and inventiveness to find ways to teach students when needed supplies are not available.
Position requires U.S. citizenship, a Master’s Degree (from an accredited school) in education administration or a related field with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience. A South Carolina teaching certificate (National Board Certification preferred) is also required. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a South Carolina one upon acceptance of the position. Candidates must be able to demonstrate proficiency in PC applications using Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, and education management systems. Position requires NCIC certification (16-hour) or the ability to gain certification within six (6) months of assignment.
Salary : $42 - $47
