Duties and Responsibilities
As an Automotive Technician with Charleston County Fleet Operations, you'll have a dynamic and varied role where your day-to-day tasks directly support essential county services. Key responsibilities include :
Diagnose and Repair Vehicles : Work on a wide range of county vehicles, from cars and trucks to medium-duty diesels and all electrical and electronic components and accessories on all types of equipment; . You'll handle everything from heating and air systems to brakes , suspension , tires , and beyond.Electrical and Electronic Components : Use advanced diagnostic tools to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including charging systems , alternators , batteries , and other critical components.Communication and Prioritization : Collaborate with vehicle operators to understand issues and prioritize repairs to ensure minimal disruption to county services. With a high importance on keeping immediate supervisor informed on work progress.Documentation : Maintain detailed records of all services performed, diagnostics, and repairs to ensure compliance and accuracy for future servicing.Emergency Support : Be ready to step in for on-call back-up support when needed, particularly for after-hours repairs on critical vehicles like EMS ambulances.Stay Updated : Keep your skills sharp by attending meetings, training sessions , workshops , and conferences on the latest automotive trends, tools, and techniques in assigned work areas by also staying updated with the review of publications and audiovisual materials ;performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.This role will challenge you to use a combination of your technical expertise and problem-solving skills while contributing to the smooth operation of the county's fleet and services. You'll have the opportunity to continuously grow and refine your skills in a supportive environment.
Minimum Qualifications
Education : A high school diploma (or GED) supplemented with at least 1 year of hands-on experience in automotive repair and maintenance.License : A valid S.C. driver's license is required.Certifications : If you don't already have an ASE certification or EPA 609 A / C certification , we'll help you obtain it within your first 6 months of hire.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Technical Skills : You should be proficient with digital multimeters and capable of reading wiring diagrams.
