Charleston County Government is seeking a dedicated and experienced Landfill Operations Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day management of the Bees Ferry Municipal Solid Waste Landfill. Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Oversight
- Supervise landfill operations, ensuring proper placement, compaction, and covering of waste in accordance with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) regulations.
- Operate and manage a range of heavy equipment, including compactors, dozers, excavators, articulated dump trucks (ADT), motor graders, and front-end loaders.
Team Leadership
- Provide direction and training to staff on operational responsibilities and safety procedures.
- Develop and manage work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and productivity.
- Promote and enforce safety standards in the workplace.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Communicate effectively with vendors, management, Charleston County residents, and coworkers while maintaining high standards of customer service.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with other County departments and private vendors.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and recovery operations, including hazardous weather conditions.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related assignments as required.
- Work flexible hours, including some holidays and weekends, as the landfill operates Monday through Saturday.
QualificationsRequired
- Education: High School Diploma or GED. (An Associate Degree in Construction Technology or Civil Engineering is preferred.)
- Experience: 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in landfill operations or a related field.
- Licenses:
- Valid South Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). (Hazmat endorsement preferred.)
- Obtain SCDHEC Landfill Supervisor or Landfill Manager certification within one year of employment.
Preferred
- Knowledge of landfill equipment operations and maintenance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
