Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Marine Construction Crew Leader to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing a small team of marine construction laborers, managing job site operations, and ensuring that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the high standards of quality that Charleston Dock Doctors LLC is known for. As a Crew Leader, you will also operate equipment such as excavators and skid steers, perform marine carpentry, document project progress, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment.

This position is ideal for an enthusiastic candidate looking for long-term career growth, with the potential to move into more senior leadership roles as the company expands. Due to the start-up nature of the company, this position may start as part-time but will evolve into full-time as contract volume grows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, train, and direct a crew of marine construction laborers, ensuring that each team member understands their tasks and works efficiently.
  • Marine Carpentry: Perform and oversee marine carpentry work, such as building and repairing docks, piers, bulkheads, and seawalls using marine-grade materials (2" x 8" and 2" x 6" lumber, stainless steel screws, pilings, etc.). Work will follow detailed scopes of work outlined in contracts.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate heavy machinery including excavators and skid steers to support project requirements, such as pile driving, grading, and excavation.
  • Job Progress Documentation: Document job progress on a daily basis, take photographs, and maintain detailed logs for progress reports. Submit updates weekly to supervisors and clients as needed.
  • Scheduling & Time Management: Ensure that the crew adheres to project timelines and schedules, resolving any delays or issues efficiently to keep the project on track.
  • Project Quality: Maintain company standards of craftsmanship and safety throughout all stages of the project. Address and correct any quality concerns proactively.
  • Client Communication: Act as the point of contact on job sites, interacting with clients to provide updates and address concerns professionally. Ensure client satisfaction with the completed project.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all work complies with OSHA, DHEC, and other applicable safety standards. Enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Vehicle Operation: Occasionally drive company vehicles to and from job sites, ensuring equipment and materials are transported safely and securely.
  • Problem Solving: Address on-site challenges such as unforeseen site conditions or delays, using creativity and technical knowledge to find solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in marine construction, carpentry, or related fields.
  • Leadership: Proven experience leading construction crews, with the ability to motivate and direct a team to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Equipment Skills: Experience operating excavators, skid steers, and other heavy machinery.
  • Construction Knowledge: In-depth understanding of marine construction, including carpentry, framing, pile driving, float installation, bulkhead repair, and dock building.
  • Driving License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, capable of driving company vehicles to transport crew and materials.
  • Communication: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, crew members, and subcontractors.
  • Physical Ability: Must be physically capable of working in outdoor marine environments, including lifting heavy materials, working at heights, and working in a variety of weather conditions.

Work Schedule:

Due to the growing and evolving nature of Charleston Dock Doctors LLC, this position will begin as part-time to full-time, depending on the current volume of contracts. The role has the potential to develop into a full-time position as the company secures more projects. Flexibility is required for this role as work hours and project schedules may vary.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $22.50 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 40 per week

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
