Charleston R-I School District Educator Substitute

The daily rates* for degreed substitutes are $90.00 short-term / $197.25 long-term. For non-degreed substitutes, the daily rates* are $85.00 short-term / $100.00 long-term.

Requirements

• All substitutes are required to have a Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) issued substitute teaching certificate. If you do not already have this certificate, we will guide you through the process.

A Substitute Certificate requires 36 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited college or university. Verification of these hours must be provided with an original transcript to DESE from each institution attended.

If you do not have 36 semester college hours, a Substitute Certificate may also be granted to an individual who has successfully completed a minimum of twenty (20) clock hours of department-approved substitute teacher training. This training is available at the links below.

DESE Substitute Certificate Process

To obtain a Substitute Certificate, follow these steps:

1. Complete 36 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited college or university.
2. Provide verification of these hours with an original transcript to DESE from each institution attended.
3. Alternatively, complete a minimum of twenty (20) clock hours of department-approved substitute teacher training.
