Summary

Charleston Southern University is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to assist with the management and operation of athletic facilities and events. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth event execution, facility upkeep, and providing excellent service to teams, coaches, and spectators. Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Events, the Athletic Facilities/Event Assistant will assist with the oversight of all athletic facilities and events. Responsible for assisting with planning and executing all facility-related maintenance and enhancements. Additionally, will aid all visiting teams, officials, and spectators at each programs respective events. Evening and weekend work is required as needed. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Aerial Lift Certification within 4 months of employment.

Work Performed

  • Assist with the setup, breakdown, and management of athletic events, including field/court preparation and equipment organization.
  • Monitor and maintain athletic facilities to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Serve as on-site support during events, addressing logistical needs and assisting with crowd control.
  • Operate and troubleshoot facility equipment such as scoreboards, sound systems, and lighting.
  • Support game day operations and guest services, as needed.
  • Enforce facility policies and procedures while ensuring a positive experience for participants and attendees.
  • Assist with general administrative tasks related to event planning and facility scheduling.

Athletic Facilities. Uses independent judgement on daily facility needs requiring attention. Communicates to various departments regarding schedule of assigned facilities. Prepares annual facility enhancement plan to Assistant AD for Facilities/Events. Assists in execution of regular facility projects and upkeep. Help maintain a master calendar of facility use for both practice and competition. Assist in the Repair and Maintenance of Athletic Equipment and Facilities. Assist in maintaining all assets of the Athletic Department. Keep all Athletic Facilities Clean, Organized, and Professional. Work closely with all Coaches and Admin Staff to Assess and fix needs as they arise.

Gameday/Event Operations. Assist the Assistant Athletic Director during Game Day and Act as Game Day Manager in the absence of the Assistant AD for Facilities/Events. Assist with oversight of the Event Staff including; Hiring, Training, Scheduling, and Supervision of Event Staff and Work Study employees. Oversee in Game Day set up/tear down for assigned sports. Oversee in Ensuring Facilities Meet Division 1 Guidelines and Standards for assigned sports. Assist in painting and preparing all fields and Athletic facilities for game day events and operations including set up and tear down. Assistant Liaison for Visiting Teams and Officials. Assistant Liaison for Scheduling Locker room facilities for use. Responsible for welcoming Officials and Visiting team. Supervise Laundry Work Study employees. Oversight of purchases for game day operations and facility needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High school diploma.

Experience

  • Prior experience in event management, athletics, or facility operations is preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in various weather conditions.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
