General Description:

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Club’s financial operation. This position is responsible for managing the accounts receivable and payroll functions, assisting in maintaining financial records, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. This role serves as a back-up to the Accounting Coordinator role when needed. 

 

The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and excellent analytical skills. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to support financial planning & decision making with the Club.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and administer the accounts receivable function, including member billing and miscellaneous receivables, processing of payments using a variety of payment methods, verification and posting of payments, resolving discrepancies, and handling the monthly aging process
  • Serve as lead for processing biweekly payroll and posting to the general ledger, working closely with Chief Financial Officer and Director of Human Resources, to ensure payroll is compliant, accurate, and timely processed
  • Administer the fixed asset and depreciation process, including quarterly entry into the independent fixed asset software
  • Review banquet and event billings, complete monthly postings of the activity, and manage the post-event communications regarding unrelated business income
  • Assist with daily banking entries
  • Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns
  • Maintain adequate documentation and filing system for receivables, payroll, and any other responsible activities
  • Serves as a primary contact for member questions on billing, member calls, and member drop-ins
  • Assist with year-end audit and annual tax return preparation
  • Prepare journal entries as requested, along with supporting documentation, for review and approval
  • Assist with accounting software administration including account set-up, report writing, member records, and point of sale support
  • Serve as backup for the accounts payable functions for the club
  • Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures
  • Assist and identify process improvement opportunities
  • Provide exemplary customer service both internally and externally
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer and Controller on various accounting tasks as needed
  • Handle sensitive information and always maintain the highest level of confidentiality
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

·        Highly proficient with excel and experience with accounting and payroll software and Windows-based applications

  • Commitment to accuracy and high attention to detail and organization
  • Growth mindset with appreciation for efficiency, improvement, and leveraging of systems
  • Strong written and communication skills with the ability to collaborate
  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize efforts to achieve objectives by deadlines
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with strong problem-solving skills

 

 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or related field or equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar accounting role

 

Hours/Schedule:

  • This is a non-exempt full-time position that works an average of 30-40 hours per week, Monday-Friday between 8 am to 5 pm (ability to be flexible).
