Position Purpose:
- The Middle School Music Instructor is responsible for preparing curriculum, teaching Music at the middle school level, collaborating with others within the Fine Arts Department, and creating a dynamic learning environment for students in the class.
- The Choir Accompanist is responsible for providing keyboard accompaniment for rehearsals and performance, and to support the choir director.
Essential Functions (Music Instructor)
- Teaches– general music classroom instrumental and vocal
- Plans daily classroom work based on curriculum requirements
- Proficient as musician to demonstrate musical scales, tones, and rhythm
- Instructs students in music theory, harmony, composition, music appreciation
- Interacts well with students to recruit them to the music program
- Collaborates well with others within the Fine Arts Department
- Conducts group rehearsals and instructs members in fundamentals of musicianship and ensemble performance.
- Other duties as assigned including that of advisor to small group of students within a grade level
Essential Functions (Accompanist)
- Proficient as a pianist to accompany choral group
- Attend scheduled rehearsal of the choir
- Play the piano (or keyboard) at rehearsals and at performances, under the direction of the choir conductor
- Run sectional rehearsals, as needed, during normal rehearsal times
- Expect to receive notice of special rehearsals
- Provide support to Middle School drama teacher during spring musical production
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or post graduate work in music or music education
- Piano proficiency
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Demonstrated skills as musician and teacher
