JOB SUMMARY
Performs technical work involving installation, repair, and maintenance work on complex heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) equipment and HVACR controls. Work requires ability to utilize numerous computer programs and comprehensive knowledge and experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of HVACR equipment, water and air test and balance, basic electronics, pneumatic, electric, and digital electronic controls. Performs troubleshooting with the systems and procedures listed for the assurance of temperature control, indoor air quality control, and energy savings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Installs, maintains, repairs, and overhauls HVAC systems and equipment in County buildings and facilities; troubleshoots and diagnoses problems and equipment malfunctions of a variety of systems and equipment, including but not limited to chillers, chilled water hydronic loops, packaged system, split systems, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, commercial appliances, exhaust fans, server rack cooling systems, building automation system, and related software.
- Inspects and monitors HVAC systems and equipment; performs scheduled preventative maintenance; adjusts, calibrates, or replaces sensors, thermostats, and actuators; and re-engineers outdated and obsolete systems for continued operation.
- Monitors and maintains building automation systems; updates software and network configurations; calibrates and configures sensors, modules, actuators, and other devices; programs operations; and backs up programming and configuration data.
- Installs energy efficient controls and equipment; installs and maintains equipment; and re-engineers existing equipment for energy efficiency.
- Assists in related department activities such as purchasing materials and supplies, researching vendors to aid in selection of equipment, recording maintenance logs, and maintaining equipment records.
- Conducts research and makes recommendations regarding new and emerging trends and technologies in the industry.
- Responds to emergency calls and after-hours calls.
- Performs basic administrative duties including written reports, memorandums, letters, and electronic correspondence, interaction with vendors, and communication through telephone and meetings.
- Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by vocational or technical training in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Five (5) years of experience in HVAC installation, maintenance and repair.
Licenses and/or Certificates:
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain within six (6) months of position assignment:
- Maintain HVAC Universal Certification from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Depending on position assignment:
- If assigned to work within the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office/Justice Center/Jail additional background checks will be required:
- Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS)
- FALCON Integrated Criminal History System
- If assigned to work within the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office/Justice Center/Jail additional background checks will be required:
- Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications.
- Knowledge of the air conditioning/refrigeration, electrical, or plumbing trade, including HVACR.
- Knowledge of Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) HVACR controls (pneumatic, electric, and electronic).
- Knowledge of chilled water systems, ice bank systems, centrifugal chillers, screw chillers, scroll chillers, and reciprocating chillers, including cooling towers.
- Knowledge and experience in electronic troubleshooting.
- Skill in the use of standard office computer equipment and software applications, including applicable HVACR control software applications.
- Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
- Ability to work around high voltage, high-pressure gasses, high temperature brazing and welding, and high noise levels in machine rooms.
- Ability to complete tasks independently.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication.
- Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
- Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
