Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology, Communication Disorders or other areas as accepted by DOE for Florida certification
  • Must be eligible for Florida teaching certificate in Speech-Language Impaired (Grades K-12) OR licensed through the Florida Department of Health as a Speech-Language Pathologist (ASHA)
  • School-based experience or pediatric experience in non-school based settings *Preferred

*Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate. 

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Evaluates, including observations when required, students suspected of speech and/or language disorders.
  2. Provides therapy (in person or virtual per district guidelines) for eligible students as indicated in the IEP.
  3. Conducts speech/language screenings on kindergarten students, school-age students referred for ESE Programs, and other school-age students referred by teachers/parents, as needed.
  4. Interprets to parents and the staff results of the speech and/or language evaluations.
  5. Participates as a member of the eligibility staffing committee for students evaluated in speech and/or language.
  6. Participates in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) for students needing speech and/or language services and attend annual reviews and other IEP team meetings as requested.
  7. Maintains progress data on enrolled students. Communicates progress to parents.
  8. Conducts re-evaluations for speech and/or language students as required by state or district guidelines and/or IEP team requests.
  9. Recommends dismissal of students from the speech and/or language program, when appropriate.
  10. Assists with transition of students from one level of school to another, (e.g. elementary to middle).
  11. Provides follow-up hearing screenings when requested.
  12. Adheres to federal and state regulations and district Programs and Procedures.
  13. Keeps records as required by federal and state regulations including daily attendance consult and collaboration logs, and therapy logs utilizing district provided software and applications.
  14. Promote generalization of speech and/or language skills by working closely with teachers and parents.
  15. Work collaboratively as a member of the school/district team, and serve as a resource to school-based personnel.
  16. Maintain applicable professional credentials.
  17. Keep current in the field of speech/language pathology.
  18. Submit fee for service records as required by the District for Medicaid billing.
  19. Performs other job-related functions as assigned.
