What are the responsibilities and job description for the Endoscopy RN position at Charlotte Gastroenterology & Hepatology?
Charlotte Gastroenterology & Hepatology is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for our Mooresville office. In this position you will provide nursing care to patients before, during, and after undergoing endoscopy procedures. You will also assist the physicians with GI endoscopy procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Admit and prepare patients for procedures, including obtaining medical history, performing assessment, and starting IV.
2. Explain procedures and expected sensations to patients and provide instructions to ensure patient cooperation and minimize discomfort.
3. Work with other staff to prepare rooms, equipment, and supplies to accommodate patient load.
4. Perform endoscopy room circulating duties and assist with scrub duties as required.
5. Administer medications as directed by the physician under the guidelines of the North Carolina State Board of Nursing.
6. Monitor patient's status during and after procedure according to SGNA conscious sedation guidelines including EKG and pulse oximetry.
7. Discharge patients from clinic when discharge criteria have been met.
8. Document on all forms as required.
9. Clean, disinfect, and/or sterilize instruments and equipment following SGNA standards and guidelines
10. Maintain accurate accounting of all narcotics by performing and documenting count at beginning and end of shift with another RN to witness.
11. Check defibrillator on daily basis and code cart monthly when working in that area.
12. Check all drugs monthly for expiration dates.
13. Maintain confidentiality of all patient information.
14. Maintain log of pathology specimens.
EDUCATION: Graduate from accredited school of Nursing.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of acute care or endoscopy experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Current North Carolina RN licensure, current BLS, ACLS certification required.
