Grounds Maintenance

Description

Charlotte Latin School is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Employee to join our Facilities team beginning July 1, 2025. The Grounds Maintenance employee helps cultivate and care for the landscaping and grounds surrounding the school campus and performs upkeep on canopies and exteriors of buildings. This position is part of the Facilities team and helps maintain an attractive, safe, and clean school environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties include but are not limited to:

• Prune, rake, trim, and edge around landscaping
• Make minor repairs to irrigation systems such as heads, controls, and basic wiring
• Water plants and grass as needed
• Apply fertilizer, insecticide, and weed control
• Weed eat
• Inspect and pressure wash sidewalks and hard surfaces
• Walk assigned areas of campus, collecting and removing trash
• Remove tree limbs and brush as needed
• Install new trees, flowers, and shrubbery
• Keep sidewalks clear of debris
• Clean outdoor furniture
• Troubleshoot minor maintenance problems on campus grounds
• Assist in the setup of campus facilities for special events as needed
• Assist in Athletic field setup as needed
• Report to campus during periods of inclement weather to assist with duties as needed
• Must comply with all safety regulations, including wearing appropriate PPE
• Other tasks as needed or required

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or GED
• Three years experience in horticultural and maintenance work preferred
• Must have or be willing to obtain a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), at the School's expense, to operate a school bus
• Or a combination of equivalent experience, education, and training

Skills

• Ability to operate hand tools and equipment used in groundskeeping, including weed eater, shears, trimmer, etc.
• Knowledge of operating a variety of landscaping equipment
• Ability to comprehend and follow simple instructions
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle, power tools, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
• Ability to stand for extended periods
• Must be able to work safely in an environment containing caustic chemicals, cleaning materials, dust, and noise
• Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
• Adheres to the highest level of professionalism by demonstrating honesty, integrity, and maturity

Working Conditions and Environment 

• Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds. 
• Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity. 
• Frequently talk and hear. 
• Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders. 
• Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor temperatures of heat and cold. 
• Long or odd hours, as needed.
• Individuals must also be able to safely operate a golf cart or similar vehicle.
