Description
Charlotte Latin School is seeking an experienced Upper School French teacher to fulfill a long-term substitute position. This position is expected to begin in August 2025 and end in December 2025. This position is ideal for motivated teachers with a knowledge of ACTFL standards and a particular passion for teaching Upper School students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach 4 class sections (Levels 1, 2, and/or 3).
- Collaborate with colleagues on lesson plans, grading, and assessment practices.
- Assess students’ academic performance, including regular grading through assigning and grading regular homework assignments, formative assessments, and summative assessments.
- Provide 1:1 support to students during office hours, before and after school.
- Engage with colleagues to maintain Latin’s strong culture of collegiality.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Experience teaching French is required.
- A bachelor's degree in French or a related World Language is required; a Master's is preferred
- An understanding of ACTFL proficiency standards and how they apply to language acquisition.
- OPI rating of Advanced High or above preferred

Working Conditions and Environment
- Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
- Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
- Frequently talk and hear.
- Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
- Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor heat and cold temperatures.
