Charlotte Latin School has an exciting opportunity for a Middle School Spanish teacher to begin in the 2025-2026 academic year. The Middle School Spanish Teacher is an integral part of the Middle School faculty. This position may teach a variety of Spanish courses across all Middle School grades and levels. This position is ideal for motivated teachers with a knowledge of ACTFL and a particular passion for teaching middle school students. Additional responsibilities may include sponsoring extra-curricular activities, advising, and/or coaching.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach four sections of Middle School Spanish
- Serve as a Middle School advisor to 10-12 Middle School students
- Work collaboratively and effectively with peers in support of student achievement and curriculum development
- Perform other related duties, such as club advisor, recess supervisor, carpool, etc., as required and assigned by the Head of Middle School

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in a World Language is preferred.
- Experience teaching French in addition to Spanish is desirable.
- An understanding of ACTFL proficiency standards and how they apply to language acquisition.
- Experience teaching with Comprehensible Input and/or Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) is beneficial.
- Previous experience teaching middle school-aged children is highly preferred, as is experience in an independent school setting.

- Inspire students to communicate confidently in Spanish through all three modes: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational, with a focus on the real-world value of using Spanish in daily life.
- Cultivate a love for the Spanish language and its rich cultures, fostering curiosity and excitement in every lesson.
- Integrate technology creatively into the classroom to enhance learning and assess student progress; Possess a strong proficiency in Google Workspace.
- Exhibit a love of working with children in this age group.
- Demonstrate strong classroom management skills, while upholding a commitment to safety and civility.
- Maintain excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues, displaying flexibility and a willingness to share classroom resources and space.
- Partner with Department Head on curriculum design work.
- Build meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and families, contributing to a supportive and thriving learning community.
- Actively engage in the life of the school community, participating in extracurricular activities and school events.
- Adhere to the highest level of professionalism.

Working Conditions and Environment
- Intermittently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
- Continuously see, sit, balance, grasp, and have repetitive use of arms, wrists, hands, and fingers; and some fine finger dexterity.
- Frequently talk and hear.
- Intermittently stand, stoop, bend, twist, crouch, kneel, crawl, walk, climb stairs, step stools and ladders, operate foot and hand controls, squeeze, and reach above shoulders.
- Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, flammables, grease, dirt, stacked materials, electrical equipment, machinery, low to medium noise levels, and moderate indoor heat and cold temperatures.
- Long or odd hours, as needed.
