General Definition of Work

The Long-Term Guest Teacher Substitute (non-certified), under moderate supervision, performs intermediate level work with limited decision-making discretion providing for a safe, orderly, and positive classroom environment in the absence of the regularly assigned teacher. The non-certified long-term guest teacher substitute will effectively manage the classroom and provide instruction for students based on teacher provided lesson plans, school provided lesson plans, or grade/department level created plans aligned to curriculum. This position is assigned at the building level for the entire school year and fills teacher absences as assigned by principal. The Long-Term Guest Teacher Substitute (non-certified) performs complex work to carry out Board of Education policies and procedures related to classroom instruction and student supervision under the direction of the principal.

Salary/Status

Monthly Rate: $3,534.96

Full-time Temporary /10 months with benefits

Place of Work

The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
  • Study and follow the curriculum and lesson plan as provided by the absent teacher or the principal
  • Effectively manage the classroom and provide instruction for students based on teacher provided lesson plans, school provided lesson plans, or grade/department level created plans aligned to curriculum
  • Apply various teaching techniques (including interactive methods and game-based activities) to encourage participation and facilitate learning
  • Prepare educational materials, such as notes, exercises and additional resources
  • Assign classwork and homework
  • Take attendance according to school policy
  • Grade students' assignments and provide constructive feedback
  • Report any incidents regarding students' behavior in and out of the classroom
  • Report all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, or any breach of the district's Code of Student Conduct to the school administration as soon as possible
  • Establish and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
  • Oversee school equipment and ensure students use it properly
  • Participate in grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, student intervention teams and other committees normally assigned to the regular classroom teacher
  • Complete local, state, or federal surveys and reports accurately and promptly
  • Create an inclusive environment with positive communication
  • Perform related work as assigned or required

  • Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to schools

  • Ability to employ positive communication skills in all settings/mediums
  • Ability to problem-solve utilizing sound judgment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding school system business
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise sound judgement

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Associate degree OR two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours

OR Ability to pass a formal assessment (ACT Workkeys and 96 hours) required

  • Equivalent combination of experience and education

Special Requirements

  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver's License or ability to provide own transportation
  • Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
  • Minimum age 21 years old
