JOB GOAL

Responsible for performing the diagnostic, repair, and maintenance of district equipment to include but not limited to small engines, agriculture tractors, and trailer repairs as well as coordinating a preventative maintenance program for assigned fleet.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Fuels, greases, and lubricates small engine, off road, agricultural and yard equipment, services batteries and other parts.
  • Diagnoses and repairs gasoline and diesel engines, fuel systems, engine electronics, chassis electrical, steering, suspension, hydraulic brake systems, drive lines, differentials, and axles.
  • Changes and repairs tires and installs and services spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts.
  • Services and repairs small engine equipment, ATV's, off road equipment, agricultural and construction equipment with fuel and oil.
  • Welds, fabricates, and assembles parts for equipment, fenders and bodywork; performs heli-arc, mig and acetylene gas welding and brazing.
  • Services, maintains, and repairs shop equipment.
  • Adheres to all safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Completes daily logs and records related to equipment and vehicle repair and service.
  • Performs safety inspections on equipment and vehicles; performs routine repair work and reports safety and other priority repair work to supervisor.
  • Requisitions, issues, pick-ups and delivers equipment and automotive parts and supplies.
  • Assists in the general maintenance and cleanliness of the repair facility area and all aspects of inventory control.
  • Steam cleans and washes motorized equipment; sweeps and vacuums car interiors.
  • Assists in training new employees to proper procedures and assists other co-workers when necessary to complete the job.
  • Diagnoses, repairs, and services off road, agricultural, yard and automotive equipment according to policies and procedures.
  • Provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders and keeps supervisor informed of critical issues.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & abilities

  • Basics knowledge of hand and pneumatic tools, as well as specialized measuring and diagnostic equipment and standard shop equipment
  • Knowledge of automotive, truck, yard, agricultural and yard components and equipment
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safe work practices, safety rules, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to operate an alignment machine computer system
  • Ability to access and understand shop manuals, Technical Service Bulletin's (TSB's) and related information on a computer
  • Knowledge of and ability to keep simple records
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Education, Training & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of verifiable experience in small engine, agricultural equipment, automotive repair
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
  • Certificates, Licenses & Registrations

  • Valid Driver's License / free of traffic infractions and violations
  • Asbestos Training 16 hours within the first 90 days of employment
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain the following within the first year of employment
  • NC State vehicle inspection license

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications (G1, A1 automobile and / or truck)
  • Refrigerant recovery & recycling certification
  • Forklift operator license and factory training relative to equipment currently in use
  • Preferred qualifications

  • Vocational training in the mechanics trade or Associates degree in Automotive Applied Sciences with two ASE certifications (G1, A1 preferred).
  • All eight ASE Certifications
  • A1 : Engine Repair

  • A2 : Automatic Transmission / Transaxle
  • A3 : Manual Drive Train & Axles
  • A4 : Suspension & Steering
  • A5 : Brakes
  • A6 : Electrical / Electronic Systems
  • A7 : Heating & Air Conditioning
  • A8 : Engine Performance
  • Five (5) years of verifiable experience in small engine, agricultural equipment or automotive repair
