Summary: The Security Associate provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling/monitoring all activity at assigned location(s). The Security Associate maintains visibility and vigilance, establishes rapport with and relates professionally with students and staff. Must be able to make sound decisions in dealing with emergency/non-emergency situations. May be assigned traffic control. Assignment location is primarily, (but not exclusively), school-based with Principal supervision.
Essential Duties:
- To respond to, report and deter inappropriate actions or activities from both internal and external sources
- Runs traffic control points where assigned
- Evaluate prevention measures, maintain crisis plans, and respond to school/department emergencies
- Required to provide security and crowd control for school activities, sport/special events as assigned
- May assist the Rapid Response Associates with safe school audits
- Assist administrative staff in lockdown procedures
- Prepare the "crash box" for school
- Be familiar with building emergency action and evacuation plans
- Work with School Resource Officer and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools Police Department on crime prevention techniques
- Work with Property Managers to help identify building and grounds safety
- May write disciplinary referrals for student
- Performs related duties as assigned
Education and Experience:
Minimum
Desirable
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3 years of related work experience
- Prior military and/or law enforcement experience preferred
Licensing / Certification Requirements:
NIMS (National Incident Management System) Certification, levels 100, 200, 700
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the National Incident Command System for use in critical incidents
- Remain trained in and able to perform, random metal searches, soft target identification, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design functions
- Remain specially trained in and equipped on current first-response tactics and techniques
- Remain trained in the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training Program
- Ability to perform effectively and efficiently in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, and good judgment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form
- Ability to diffuse differences through conflict resolution
- Knowledgeable of all Board of Education policies
Physical Requirements:
The work regularly requires standing and walking, It involves infrequent bending, squatting, reaching, running, and the ability to lift/carry, push/pull light weights less than 50 pounds. Exposure to extreme weather conditions, toxic fumes, and blood borne pathogens are infrequent.
