General Overview of Position
The HVAC Technician, along with other maintenance staff, has a key role in the daily function of the district. The role covers all aspects of each day’s operation. The person in this position needs to be knowledgeable in a vast array of mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and construction trades, as well as grounds keeping. HVAC Technicians are well-organized, motivated team players. They are able to follow written and verbal instructions and apply knowledge that they have learned to increase the District’s effectiveness and efficiency.
Work Schedule
The work week for this position is 40 hours/week, there may be times when flexible hours may have to be scheduled if there is a major project to be completed. This position is part of a rotating on call status, which will require weekend building checks on a rotating basis.
Reports To
This position reports to the Director of Facilities & Safety Services / Master Electrician.
Areas of Responsibility/Duties
- Shall perform maintenance on the following types of equipment:
- Energy program - HVAC control system for District
- Boilers & Chillers
- Univents & Mini Splits systems
- RTUs & AHUs
- Electrical
- Air conditioning
- Air changing
- Kitchen Equipment
- Plumbing fixtures and equipment
- Cleaning equipment
- Shall be competent at replacing broken parts on the above classes of equipment.
- Shall make building repairs to items such as doors, windows, and various types of furniture as requested.
- Shall be capable of operating all maintenance department equipment.
- Shall be responsible for carrying out assigned maintenance tasks in a reasonable amount of time.
- Shall maintain records as directed by the Director of Facilities & Safety Services (computer work orders and inspections of mechanical equipment, etc.)
- Shall keep the Director of Facilities & Safety Services informed of any equipment malfunctions or other impending problems that have the potential to hamper the normal operation of the school plant.
- Maintain work truck –
- Proper fluid levels.
- Wash as needed.
- Keep the interior clean.
- Keep service work areas clean and organized. Maintain an inventory of all tools used daily on the job. Keep all tools organized and in their proper case.
- Perform weekend building checks as requested.
- Remove snow from sidewalks/entrances in winter months as requested.
- Assist with grounds/athletic field maintenance as requested.
- Check the work order system daily and complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Provide superior customer service.
- Represent Charlotte Public Schools in a positive manner at all times.
- Shall perform other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
- Universal EPA Certification
- Advanced Knowledge of various HVAC equipment.
- Must be able to read literature relating to maintenance operations.
- Must be able to express maintenance related ideas clearly both orally and in writing.
- Must have basic knowledge and competency in construction trades and equipment operation.
- Must be able to read blueprints.
- Must have and keep a valid driver’s license.
- Must be punctual and reliable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.50 - $27.20 per hour
