Summary:
The Facility and Grounds Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency of the SPCA's facilities and surrounding grounds. This position is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and landscaping tasks to ensure a welcoming environment for animals, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facility Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections of buildings and surrounding areas to identify maintenance needs.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks, including painting, plumbing, electrical work, drywall repairs, carpentry and cleaning of gutters and roofs.
- Execute light maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, replacing filters, and routine upkeep of equipment.
- Ensure that all facilities meet safety and health standards.
- Address staff and volunteer concerns regarding facility and grounds-related issues and implement solutions in a timely manner.
- Run regular errands as requested to support maintenance operations and facility needs.
2. Groundskeeping:
- Maintain the landscaping, including mowing, trimming, planting, mulching, and snow removal.
- Ensure pathways, parking lots, and outdoor areas are clean, safe, and free of debris.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of outdoor animal enclosures and habitats.
3. Vendor Management:
- Schedule and coordinate inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency repairs with external contractors.
- Obtain quotes, schedule services, and oversee the quality of work performed by vendors.
- Maintain positive relationships with vendors to ensure timely and effective service delivery.
4. Animal Care Support:
- Collaborate with animal care staff to ensure that outdoor areas are conducive to the well-being of animals.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of outdoor events or activities related to animal care and community outreach.
5. Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Manage inventory of maintenance tools and equipment, ensuring they are properly stored, maintained, and utilized.
- Maintain detailed reports on maintenance, safety issues, expenses, and operational efficiency for senior management review.
6. Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all OSHA and workplace safety standards/procedures and the use of personal protective equipment while performing maintenance tasks.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents to the Director of Finance & Administration promptly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in facilities management or related field is a plus.
- Proven experience in facility maintenance, landscaping, or groundskeeping.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical operations.
- Proficiency with repair tools, maintenance techniques, and safety procedures.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Must be comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces when necessary.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with others.
- Passion for animal welfare and commitment to the mission of the SPCA.
- Valid driver’s license required; ability to operate company vehicles for maintenance-related tasks.
Work Environment:
- The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, often in varying weather conditions and exposure to maintenance-related hazards.
- The Facility and Grounds Specialist may be required to work occasional night, weekend, or on-call shifts, especially during special events or emergencies.
Salary : $46,000 - $56,000
