LEAP Functional Skills Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold VA teaching license endorsed in Special Education
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to develop and modify curriculum for students with significant and cognitive disabilities or physical disabilities, including Autism, using ASOL's. Students participate in alternative assessment, VAAP.
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to provide instruction in multiple Functional Skills domains including domestic, vocational, functional academics, leisure/recreation, and community.
- The Functional Skills teacher should be familiar with the components of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), Structured TEACCH Program and work systems.
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to complete all required SPED paper work and facilitate meetings with appropriate team members.
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to work with multiple staff (instructional assistants) and related service providers to develop and implement educational plans.
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to physically assist students with feeding, toileting, other personal care, and positioning.
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to assist students with challenging behaviors re-regulate, including students on the Autism Spectrum
- The Functional Skills teacher will be able to work with students that are verbal and non-verbal.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Abide by state statutes, school board policies and regulations.
- Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by administrators or supervisors.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
- Serve on committees as assigned.
- Remain current on instructional practices in education. (e.g. instructional technology)
PHYSICAL DEMAND/REQUIREMENTS:
Duties performed typically in school settings. Must be able to respond to the unique educational, behavioral and developmental needs of students with disabilities. Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required..
