What are the responsibilities and job description for the Facilities Manager position at Charlottesville First United Methodist Church?
The Church Facility Manager is responsible for assuring the successful operation and function of the church’s building and grounds in support of its mission. The Church Facility Manager serves under the direction of the Trustees.
:
1. Contact vendors and schedule preventative maintenance of the church building including but not limited to the plumbing, electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), security, lighting, fire safety systems and custodial services.
2. Work with HVAC computerized control system to ensure that temperatures are adjusted appropriately for worship services and scheduled meetings. Work with HVAC Service Contractor and Trustees to address issues when needed.
3. Observe system breakdowns and irregularities. Notify designated members of Trustees or Property Committee for direction to resolve the issue. Some issues may be emergencies requiring contacting the service provider directly. Tour the building including basements, mechanical rooms and building exterior at least weekly.
4. Schedule outside vendors or contractors to make planned or emergency repairs to the building, equipment or systems.
5. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance repairs and review/approve invoices for maintenance/repairs with guidance and help from Trustees or Property Committee.
6. Manage custodial needs of the church. Establish procedures and timing for cleaning church facilities. Work with volunteers and outside contractors as needed. Assist in establishing the custodial budget.
7. Provide support for set up and take down of chairs, tables and other equipment for meetings, worship, weddings, funerals, and otherwise as directed. Obtain assistance from staff or volunteers as needed.
8. Distribute and manage building access system, codes and keys.
9. Support teams of volunteers providing church maintenance services such as cleaning, painting, and landscaping.
10. Follow procedures for handling, storing, safekeeping, and destruction of hazardous materials.
11. Serve as primary contact when security and power outage alarms are tripped, which may occasionally require evening and weekend work.
12. Schedule and oversee building, elevator, fire alarm and other required inspections.
13. Walk the church perimeter daily (M-F), inside and outside, to ensure that it is both clean and safe, including looking for potential safety hazards, vandalism, or other risks to the congregation or preschool.
14. Attend staff meetings and trustee meetings as requested.
1. Must have good interpersonal skills and familiarity with the church as an organization. Must work cooperatively with the Pastor, church staff, musicians, church committees and members of the congregation, showing respect and courtesy.
2. Must promote a positive team attitude with employees, volunteers, church staff, and members.
3. Must be reliable, self-motivated, have good time-management skills and willing to serve others.
4. Must have the ability to execute projects systematically.
5. Must have good organizational and communication skills.
6. Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check and permit the church to contact previous employers for recommendations.
7. Ability to perform handiwork is a plus.

9. Must use discretion and confidentiality in all matters related to church members and church business.
The Facility Manager reports to the Senior Pastor and is accountable to the Trustees and the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.

Work schedule is flexible.
