Job Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer (Part-time, .5)
Location: Charlottesville High School
Reports to: Head Athletic Trainer
FLSA Status: Exempt (Hourly funded Position)
Primary Functon:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for preventing and treating athletic injuries under the parameters of the Virginia State license. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is directly involved in the phases of health care of the athletes including injury prevention, injury evaluation, documentation, immediate first aid care, referral, treatment, and rehabilitation. The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists coaches by advising and treating athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness.
Qualitifications:
- Must complete all continuing education requirements for certification and license renewal
- Must have a current NATABOC and Virginia AT License
- Must be available to work afternoon/evenings with occasional Saturdays
- Bachelor’s Degree in job-related field is required. Previous experience in the field of athletic training is preferred.
Reports to: Head Athletic Trainer
Performance Responsibilities:
- Administer first aid and assistance to injured student athletes to provide appropriate immediate care as required
- Consult with physicians and other medical personnel (e.g. referrals, physical exams, fitting of baces, etc.) to develop course of treatment for injured athletes
- Evaluates injuries and develops treatment and exercise plans as appropriate for injury.
- Implements individualized therapeutic interventions, and monitors responses to therapy to ensure student safety.
- Educates students, families, and coaches regarding injuries, risk factor modification, and prevention programs.
- Maintains medical documentation including but not limited to pre-participation exam, physician clearance notes, and injury reports.
- Utilizes appropriate modalities to promote injury healing, wound healing or provide extra stability to body parts.
- Assists in the daily operation of the athletic training room including patient care, equipment care, inventory storage and ordering
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with all students, parents and coaches.
- Provide coverage to practices and games as assigned.
- Travel to football games.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure and efficient and effective athletic program

Physical Conditions and Nature of Work:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing; some climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job required 40% sitting, 30% walking and 30% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
Evaluation:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is evaluated by the Athletic Director.
