CLASS TITLE: ATTENDANCE ASSISTANT
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of a Principal or Assistant Principal, provide a variety of responsible clerical duties related to student attendance accounting and record keeping at an intermediate or high school in accordance with the provisions of the California Education Code; operate a computer to enter and update attendance data.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide accurate reporting for daily attendance activities; enter absences in the computer; process and verify student absence information from teachers and parents; verify student’s absence from class; create and distribute roll sheets; collect roll sheets, scan roll sheets, redistribute roll sheets; issue off-campus passes. E
Contact parent or guardian to determine and verify excused and unexcused absences; prepare permits to leave, tardy slips and passes according to established guidelines. E
Communicate with students returning from absences; enter information and codes into the computer and generate daily attendance and enrollment records; record daily absences; prepare lists and distribute to teachers. E
Enroll new students; distribute enrollment materials; verify immunization; determine if students live within the District boundaries; forward information to Dean of Students. E
Prepare, type and maintain a variety of reports including weekly and monthly attendance, foster students and home verifications. E
Provide student attendance information to staff, parents, social services agencies and authorities as requested; prepare suspension and amend verified lists. E
Assist with registration at the beginning of the school year; collect emergency cards and verify for completeness; collect miscellaneous registration paper work; review class schedules to determine if off campus passes or late start passes are required. E
Refer serious attendance problems to appropriate personnel according to established procedures; assist in identifying and resolving problems of students with frequent absenteeism. E
Answer attendance office telephone; discuss attendance problems with parents or guardian if applicable; explain attendance rules and procedures. E
Prepare a variety of State, District and school records and reports including attendance, ADA and enrollment. E
Operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, scanner, printer, typewriter, fax, calculator and two way radio. E
Train and provide work direction to students aides assigned to the attendance office.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school including or supplemented by course work in typing, record-keeping and office procedures and one year clerical experience involving record-keeping.
