What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paraprofessional (Part-Time) position at Charter School of the Dunes?
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
In conjunction with the classroom teacher, the paraprofessional is responsible for supporting instruction and managing the learning environment. The position reports to the Support Staff Coordinator and the Principal.
ESSENTIAL TASKS:
- Maintain the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned.
- Work with students in groups and individually during lessons, assisting with lesson plans and materials, grading homework, and writing progress reports.
- Interact in a professional manner with students and parents.
- Co-teach lesson components as determined by the teacher, leading small-group or individual instruction and discussion, and reviewing classwork material.
- Provide instructional reinforcement under the direction of the classroom teacher in executing lesson plans.
- Assume the responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings.
- Participate in planning sessions with the learning team, communicating with parents and school officials as needed.
- Adhere to the established policies and regulations of the School Board.

- Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with students, parents, and staff to enhance the instructional environment; participate in parent-teacher and faculty meetings and events.
- Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge or familiarity with the subject(s) to be taught; knowledge of the principles and methodologies of effective teaching, is a plus, but not required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling.(Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential tasks.)
REQUIREMENTS:
- College Credit past 60 hours (preferred)
- High school diploma or GED required
- Proven experience working with students
- Effective communication skills; oral, written, and visual with adults and children
- Understanding of basic principles of childhood development
- Familiarity with educational software or willingness to learn
- Current First Aid and CPR certification
- Be eligible to work in the United States.
