Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Information Services Director, this is technical support level position in the Information Services Department. The position encompasses a combination of network and systems administrator duties. This position will be required to provide technical support for the servers (physical and virtual), network and systems, enterprise backup and recovery, disaster planning coordination, cybersecurity related duties, telecommunications support, Township-wide end-user support, Microsoft 365 administration and support, and other Information Services related functions and operations as necessary.
Essential Job Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
An employee in this position may be called upon to perform any or all of the following essential job functions, duties and responsibilities. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel labeled to this classification. The employee will perform other related duties as required.
- Responsible for the management and maintenance of the Township’s network infrastructure ensuring reliable operation and optimal performance, security and availability, integrating automation processes where appropriate. Including the Townships’ physical and virtual server (VMware) environment.
- Troubleshoot system and network related issues by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, and assessing impact issues.
- Monitor systems and network performance and take corrective actions when necessary to prevent downtime and disruptions.Including LAN, WAN and wireless infrastructure.
- Perform regular systems updates and patches to ensure network stability, security, and compliance.
- Perform and monitor regular server data backups and test backup systems to ensure successful restoration and disaster recovery operations.
- Network administration including Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy Management, Endpoint Protection, VMware, Veeam, Cisco Systems and Switches, Microsoft SQL, and Windows Servers.
- Be directly involved with the management and support of cybersecurity related functions.
- Systems administration involving multiple computer management systems across all Township Departments.
- Ensures that all information systems and networks operate according to internal standards, external accrediting agency standards, regulatory agencies, and legal requirements.
- Working with network hardware and software including routers, switches, firewalls and other network devices.
- Implement new network hardware and systems where necessary to increase optimum device utilization and performance.
- Collaborate with other Information Services team members, other Township Departments, and vendors as it relates to the Township networks and systems.
- Provide support for end-users across all Township departments, addressing network-and computer related concerns and resolving technical issues promptly.
- Keep abreast of changing technology and techniques through research as well as attend conferences, workshops and seminars as appropriate.
- Review new equipment and software offerings and provide recommendations for purchase, prepares statistical analyses and reports.
In order for an employee to be successful, they must be able to perform all tasks satisfactorily as determined by the Information Services Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the position.
- 4 or more years of proven professional experience in a technical I.T. role, preferably as a Network Systems Administrator.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of principles, methods, and practices related to information systems networks and telephone communications.
- In-depth knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, etc), VPN, firewalls.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience in Disaster Recovery implementation procedures and testing.
- Thorough knowledge of a variety of computer applications and hardware and software nomenclature.
- Ability to utilize current network tools to perform analyses, generate reports, sort and categorize data, etc.
- Working knowledge and experience with current Windows server and Windows desktop operating systems.
- Working knowledge and experience in Microsoft Windows Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
- Working knowledge with endpoint protection, VMware, Cisco Systems and Switches, Microsoft Windows and SQL.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 environment
- Working knowledge and experience in systems administration involving multiple computer management systems.
- Experience with network automation or scripting (e.g, Powershell).
- Strong technical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Possess valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a fingerprint-based background check for required unescorted access to secure locations, such as the police department, as well as law enforcement systems and information.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with some travel to different sites; when visiting parks or other sites the employee may be required to walk on uneven and slippery surfaces, be exposed to all weather conditions, dust and pollen, and mechanical hazards; work in server and equipment rooms or closets with higher levels of related noise, employees may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and may be required to travel outside Township boundaries for work-related functions.
Physical Requirements:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl under desks, climb on ladders, to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Supplemental Information:
The salary range for the Network Systems Administrator is $80,000 to $87,000.00, based on experience, skills and qualifications.
