Chartis is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to support critical wireless communications projects for Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The ideal candidate will bring expertise in advanced telecommunications systems and engineering innovation, contributing to the deployment of cutting-edge solutions that address CBP’s operational requirements. Candidates should be located in the National Capital Region (NCR), we expect a combination of remote and on-site work and travelling to multiple regional offices and sites.?This opportunity is contingent upon contract award.
This position will be supporting :
- CBP’s Wireless Engineering Division (WED), executing technical tasks, overseeing mission-critical wireless communications projects, and enhancing communication capabilities for CBP agents and officers.
- WED’s Innovation Team, rapidly identifying, testing, and deploying technology to support CBP operational requirements.
Responsibilities
Design, integration and modernization of wireless communications systems (point to point, mesh and mobile)Gather customer requirements, determine requirements, develop solutions; provide preliminary designs, cost estimates; support procurement and implementation of wireless communications systemsCompare wireless communications systems specifications to requirements and perform system performance validation including field testing.Develop innovative, in-house solutions to address emergency operational needs, ensuring CBP’s communication capabilities remain operational and effective.Integrate new technologies into CBP’s laboratory environment, develop test plans, perform functional testing, and document results with actionable recommendations.Deploy and support wireless communications systems in the field, ability to troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues.Lead the design, integration, and implementation of complex wireless communications systems, including Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems, broadband push-to-talk, and wireless backhaul.Provide technical oversight and guidance for the deployment of Nationwide Wireless Broadband (Cellular, 2G, 3G, 4G / LTE, WiMAX), P25 VHF / UHF / 700 / 800 MHz communications, wireless LAN (802.11), and optical technologies.Conduct testing of alternate backhaul solutions to assess their deployment feasibility, providing detailed test reports with performance metrics, installation requirements, risks, and cost estimates.Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of relevant experienceExperience compiling technical recommendations, white papers, analysis reports, or executive briefings.Excellent demonstratable written, inter-personal communications and management skillsHistory working with vendors and project teamsUnderstand wireless communications technologies and conceptsRequired Experience
Experience planning transport and routing of IP data through gateways, switches and routers, document in network diagramsExtensive experience managing engineering projects, including design, integration, and deployment of telecommunications systems.Demonstrated expertise in solving complex problems and implementing unique engineering solutions.Proven supervisory and leadership skills with experience managing funds, resources, and multi-task contracts.Specialized knowledge of telecommunications projects, including Mission Critical P25 systems, wireless broadband, covert surveillance systems, and wireless mesh networks.Required Education
