What a day in the life of the Structural/Bridge Project Manager would look like
You will leverage your structural engineering expertise to manage both our team and a diverse range of projects that address the company’s full structural engineering needs. Your portfolio will include transportation projects—such as bridges, culvert replacements, and repairs for municipalities, county highways, and the Illinois Department of Transportation—as well as non-transportation projects including small-scale buildings, steel industrial towers and platforms, retaining walls, and foundations. The following are some of the key responsibilities for this role:
- Clearly communicate project goals and expectations with staff and clients through both written and verbal channels.
- Lead on-site condition assessments utilizing existing plans to assist in creation of condition reports when requested by the Client.
- Mentor and guide staff while collaborating across departments to ensure comprehensive project support.
- Check all calculations and drawings created by structural designers and coordinate the changes back to the designers. On some occasions you will be asked to perform designs as well, which helps keep your skills fresh and up to date.
- Coordinate plans and specification submittal package with QA/QC reviewer.
- Work with the Department Head and Business Development Team on work backlog and strategic project pursuits.
What you will need to thrive in this role:
Education: A Bachelors degree in Engineering (Civil Engineering is preferred)
Licensure: S.E. license in Illinois or ability to obtain within 1 year
Experience: 8 years of hands on structural engineering experience at a civil engineering firm, or equivalent governmental body, based in the United States. Design experience on simple transportation/roadway projects and bridge hydaulics is a plus.
Management: Experience managing, leading, and mentoring local and remote teams.
Location: Decatur, IL; hybrid schedule is available. Willingness to travel for project site visits across Illinois is required.
Software skills: Microsoft 365, Adobe, MicroStation. Experience in MDX Software, HECRAS and RISA3D is a plus.
