The Chatham County Counter Narcotics Team has an opening for Evidence Custodian, where you will be responsible for managing the intake, storage, and disposition of evidence and property. - Oversee the receipt, identification, categorization, storage, custody and data entry of a wide variety of evidence, found property, safekeeping items, and items held for destruction in accordance with established evidence and property system procedures, established departmental procedures, local, state, and federal laws, and accreditation agencies.
- Determine and assist with the disposition of property and cases, preparing all evidence requested by solicitors, district attorneys, investigators, and officers, etc., and ensuring compliance with court orders, departmental operating procedures, and applicable laws.
- Coordinate the scheduling and transportation of evidence and property to and from the department to other locations, such as other departments, courts, individuals and testing facilities.
- Testify in court as needed.
- Determine appropriate disposal of items such as for destruction, sale, auction, and department use.
- Maintain comprehensive records, both in hardcopy and electronic format, related to evidence and property items and ensure appropriate paperwork is submitted for the transfer, release, and disposition of evidence and property items to ensure proper description, location, chain of custody, disposition, and item integrity.
- Produce appropriate reports and records, as necessary, to assist with the management and operation of the property and evidence system.
- Conduct an annual inventory of property and evidence room(s) to ensure the safeguarding of and accurate accounting of all items currently stored.
- Prioritize work assignments to ensure the evidence and property system stay in operation to include clearing item storage locations, ordering packaging supplies, and maintaining forms.
- Review security controls at primary and alternative property and storage locations.
- Maintain a clean and orderly storage facility.
- Respond to inquiries and requests regarding evidence and property items from department personnel, criminal justice agencies, courts, prosecutors, and other relevant entities in a courteous and timely manner.Â

- At least two (2) years of experience in records management and maintenance of stored evidentiary property, or a related field; orÂ
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
