 As a Firefighter Recruit, you will be paid a starting salary of $41,670. Upon successful completion of the Recruit Academy your salary will increase to $45,837, and after 6 months you will be eligible for promotion to Advanced Firefighter with a starting salary of $50,421. Bonus pay is available for successfully obtaining your Georgia EMT License.

A Firefighter Recruit

- Follows department rules and regulations, protocols, general orders, standard operating policies, and procedures.

- Successfully learns and retains job-related materials and skills through online, classroom, and practical application in various fire service techniques, equipment and apparatus operations, and emergency medical care as determined through achieving passing scores on written and practical evaluations.
- Successfully completes requirements of the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC), National Fire Protection Association, Insurance Service Office, National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, the State of Georgia Office of EMS and Trauma, and Chatham County to acquire the certifications and licenses to qualify as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Georgia.
- Completes all other related job functions, requirements, exams, evaluations, physical training, projects, and assignments as directed by immediate supervisor(s).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
- Must be a U. S. Citizen and possess a valid state driver's license.
- Applicants must undergo an extensive background investigation in accordance with the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC) rules and regulations.
- Successfully pass all pre-employment testing (written exam, physical agility test), interview, physical evaluation and fitness assessment (NFPA 1582), background, criminal, and motor vehicle history (MVR) review, drug screen, and other pre-employment requirements.
- Applicants for uniformed firefighting positions must not have:
- Pending criminal cases.
- Convictions, nolo contendere or pleas involving sexual offenses, Domestic Violence Act offenses, impersonating a police officer, perjury, or false statements.
- Felony convictions, nolo contendere or pleas involving felony arrests (within last 10 years).
- Multiple misdemeanors within the past three years.
- Serious misdemeanor convictions, nolo contendere, or pleas within the past three years.
- Patterns of criminal involvement or intent related to offenses that may indicate a disregard for the law or ethical and moral conduct.
- DUI/DWI charge with deposition of nolo contendere, conviction, or plea within the past five years or two in the last seven years.
- Driver's license suspensions within the past three years and no two or more suspensions in the past seven years.
- Three moving violations in the past two years and no five or more in the past seven years.
- Multiple accidents within the past two years.
- Reckless driving within the past two years.
- Vehicular homicide or hit and run charge or arrest.
- Fleeing or attempting to elude the police charge or arrest.
- Failure to obtain required certifications and licenses within the time limits, or failure to maintain required certifications and licenses will be cause for disciplinary actions up to termination.
