May be hired as Child Advocate Attorney I-III, based on Experience Level. Salary commensurate with Qualifications and Experience Level.
Examples of Duties
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Indigent Defense, you
- Perform professional legal work involved in representing the legal rights and best interests of abused and neglected children in dependency matters before the Chatham County Juvenile Court.
- Investigate abuse allegations and litigate dependency cases before the Juvenile Court.
- Provide legal representation, including case investigation, legal research, evaluation, and strategic preparation for dependency court proceedings.
- Represent clients at all stages of their cases.
- Provide ongoing case monitoring and advocacy by collaborating with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure that clients’ well-being needs are met, and that permanent homes and caretakers are identified.
- Regularly visit child clients and communicate with Department of Family and Children Services case managers, other attorneys, foster parents, educators, and medical and mental health professionals.
- May supervise staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school.
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Georgia.
- Must be a Member in Good Standing of the State Bar of Georgia.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
During emergencies and disasters affecting Chatham County, you may be required to report to work as part of a disaster operations team.
In accordance with the Department of Transportation, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders and those employed in safety-sensitive positions are subject to random drug testing.
Candidates with direct and relevant experience may receive an offer of up to 10% above the minimum salary that is posted, reflecting their exceptional qualifications.
