- Service engines, transmissions, differentials, electrical systems, front ends, and other equipment on various types of gas and diesel automotive and mechanical equipment.
- Test vehicles and equipment to check malfunctions and determine corrective measures.
- Complete and order lists of parts necessary to perform repairs and conduct scheduled vehicle and equipment service and preventive maintenance inspections.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with operators and perform detailed physical inspections of vehicles and equipment.
- Determine the degree of wear, proper operation, service condition, and needed repairs.
- Respond to calls for service repairs, recover disabled vehicles, complete road or on-site repairs, or transport vehicles and equipment to the garage for repair.
- Complete the required paperwork about all aspects of maintenance and repair performed on units.
- Record parts and materials used, current vehicle mileage, user comments, and other information, prepare required reports, and log work activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of vocational/technical training, and
- One (1) year of experience in automotive and small engine repair and service; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess or be able to obtain ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification within six (6) months.
