What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Ranger position at Chatham County Government?
Are you passionate about the outdoors and protecting natural spaces? The Chatham County Parks and Recreation department is seeking a Park Ranger to join their team and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for park visitors while preserving the beauty of our natural areas.
- Identifies potential emergency situations and investigates and documents incidents on park property.
- Provides education and enforcement of Parks and Recreation rules and policies, providing a positive safety presence in parks and protection for visitors, facilities, and natural and historical park resources.
- Develops and implements park resource management plans to protect cultural, historical and natural park resources, flora/fauna life, water resources, and erosion control methods.
- Explains facilities and services provided for public use, enjoyment, and education.
- Meets visitors, answers questions, and provides information and directions.
- Attempts to resolve customer complaints while maintaining good public relations.
- Provides natural and cultural interpretive programs and services via tours, walks, and other programs.
- Promotes and markets programs through various media outlets.
- Prepares forms and reports on a wide range of subjects, including visitor use, visitor contacts, programming, patrols, accidents and incidents, purchase orders and requisitions, purchasing cards, and equipment operations.
- Answers telephone, operates computer, maintains logs, answers correspondence, and maintains park files.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Park Management, Recreation, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or a closely related field, and
- At least two (2) years of full-time experience in the operation of a park or natural area, including resource management and protection/security functions; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing and able to work in all weather and terrain conditions, outdoors, alone or with a team, including night and weekend work.
