The Chatham County Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a dedicated Parks Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our parks system! This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team and play a key role in providing exceptional recreational facilities for our residents.
- Plans, directs, reviews and evaluates the maintenance, repair, development and renovation of county parks, athletic facilities, landscaped areas, and related infrastructure and assets.
- Assures that public facilities are clean, safe, secure, aesthetically pleasing, and in compliance with State and Federal regulations, and County standards.
- Directs parks operations, maintenance, renovations, and capital improvement projects.
- Develops and manages operational goals, objectives, and work standards.
- Monitors operations, reviews work activities, and enforces compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Exercises independent judgement within broad policy guidelines, evaluates and analyzes issues, and recommends and implements solutions.
- Provides leadership, direction, and guidance in strategies, planning, asset development, priorities, and customer service issues.
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates division employees, supervises/participates in the hiring process of employees, provides instruction and training, assigns and reviews work, acts on employee problems and concerns, and counsels or disciplines employees.
- Coordinates daily work activities, organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work, and monitors the status of work in progress and inspects completed work.
- Conducts staff meetings.
- Develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage, confers with assigned staff, assists with complex situations, and provides technical expertise.
- Manages a variety of technical issues, including budgets, expenditures, trend analysis, project specifications, and compliance management, and determines equipment, materials, and personnel needs.
- Consults with the Assistant Director over Park Services, County administration, and other officials to review division activities, reviews and resolves problems, receives advice and direction, and provides recommendations.
- Prepares reports of programs, provides statistical data of program growth and interest, and recommends new services and activities.
- Assures the effective allocation and utilization of budgeted funds.
- Assures that operational and project goals are met, appropriate services are provided, and operational issues are properly addressed and resolved.
- Develops and implements operating policies and procedures, evaluates current procedures and practices, and researches and implements improved procedures and practices.
- Manages and coordinates plans for special event usage of parks facilities and sports fields, and oversees the use of recreational facilities, sports fields, and other public facilities.
- Coordinates activities with other divisions, departments, agencies, or others.
- Meets with community leaders and organizations to promote department programs, obtain input for improvements, and discuss problems, coordinates with other recreation agencies to exchange ideas and avoid overlapping programs, and coordinates use of schools and other County facilities for programs and special events.
- Performs general customer service and administrative duties.
- Ensures departmental compliance with all applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
- Acts as departmental safety coordinator, ensures adherence to established safety procedures, monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals, coordinates safety training, reviews injury and incident reports, coordinates vaccinations for staff, and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
- Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, division reports, budget reports, questionnaires and surveys, presentations, performance appraisals, or other documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or Management, Forestry, Horticulture, Public or Business Administration, or a related field, and
- At least four (4) years of experience in parks and recreation management, municipal infrastructure management, building construction, maintenance trade fields, environmental studies, horticulture, or a related field, including supervisory or management experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess a Qualified Applicator Certificate or Georgia Pesticide Applicator License with Ornamental and Turf endorsements or be able to obtain within first year of employment.
- Must possess a Certified Playground Safety Inspector Certification issued by the National Recreation and Parks Association or be able to obtain within the first year of employment.
