Performs professional, technical, and administrative work producing financial reports, reconciliations, preparing line-item transfers, journal entries, and budget amendments; collecting data for studies and reports; generating reports through financial systems and completing related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Deputy Finance Officer.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking, hearing, use of hands and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking and occasionally requires standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching with hands and arms and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; work requires vocal communication to express or exchange ideas; work requires hearing to perceive information at normal spoken levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work has no exposure to environmental conditions and work is generally performed in a moderately noisy location (i.e. business office).

- Reconciles bank accounts on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis as required by the specific bank account;
- Reconciles other accounts as required such as department accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and sales tax;
- Monitors and records daily bank account activity including receipts, returns, charges, and transfers;
- Generates monthly reports for state-required tax reporting and payment;
- Prepares line-item transfers and budget amendments;
- Prepares and records journal entries, and ensures all entries are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Assists with producing basic reports and queries for departments and other agencies;
- Serves as the department’s point of contact for finance representatives;
- Serves as backup to other finance positions as needed;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Thorough understanding of the fundamental theories, principles, methods, and practices of governmental accounting;
- General knowledge of the theories, methods, and practices of local government finance;
- General knowledge of the theories, methods, and practices of grants;
- General knowledge of the functions and organizations of county government;
- Skill in the use of computers and software such as MUNIS, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.;
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing;
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations, using systems for efficiency;
- Ability to read financial documents to collect the necessary data;
- Ability to prepare and present reports;
- Ability to be detail oriented;
- Ability to multi-task and manage various projects;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected county officials, staff, external agencies, and the general public.
