Position Title: HVAC Mechanic II
Nature of Work:
Employee is able to install, modify, troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems. Work is performed independently under limited supervision. A larger or more complex job may be reviewed by the supervisor to determine appropriate procedures and work methods. Employee performs preventative maintenance and makes recommendations to improve system effectiveness and efficiency.
Employee serves as a technical resource for HVAC. Employee receives assignments in the form of written work orders or oral direction and is expected to independently determine the parts, materials, tools, and repair procedures required to resolve most work problems personally. Employee provides technical support to others. Employee assists other trades and may perform a variety of general maintenance and manual labor tasks as needed. Employee has a commitment to safety and practices/promotes safe work procedures.
Essential Duties Assigned To This Position:
Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC mechanical and control problems.
Analyzes HVAC system condition and recommends new systems or modifications.
Reads blueprints and diagrams.
Installs HVAC systems including the wiring of power and control equipment.
Overhauls and/or replaces compressors.
Cleans, lubricates and services HVAC equipment.
Adjusts and balances HVAC distribution systems.
Uses recycle and recovery equipment.
Measures, cuts, threads, assembles, and installs pipes and tubing.
Determines and procures type and quantities of materials needed.
Observes/monitors contracted work as needed.
Maintains and records material purchases and man-hour expenditures.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of practices and equipment used in the installation and repair of HVAC equipment.
Working knowledge of electricity.
Working knowledge of refrigeration.
Ability to troubleshoot HVAC equipment malfunctions and perform repairs.
Ability to follow broad or specific written or oral instructions.
Ability to use recycle and recovery equipment.
Ability and physical strength sufficient to move objects.
Ability to keep and submit accurate records for material purchases and man-hour expenditures.
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Training, Experience, and Special Requirements:
High Diploma or equivalent.
5 years of considerable experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems.
Must hold a valid NC driver’s license.
