CHATHAM COUNTY-SAVANNAH METROPOLITAN PLANNING COMMISSION
The Chatham County–Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission (MPC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position listed below:
PLANNER
The Planner will perform professional historic preservation, urban planning and regulatory work including data collection, analysis and maintenance working under the direction of the Director of Historic Preservation and Urban Design. This work requires knowledge of general principles and practices of Urban Planning and Historic Preservation, which is usually gained through degree granting schools or equivalent training and experience. Responsibilities include plan reviews consisting of site development, Certificates of Appropriateness (historic preservation and new construction reviews within local historic districts), site inspections, historic research and resource survey, and zoning map and text amendments. Other duties include presenting recommendations to Commissions, meeting with members of the development community and the public for the purpose of advising them on processes and procedures. Must have the ability to research, collect and evaluate historic resources, planning data and prepare written reports; and to read, interpret, and apply historic preservation and planning-related laws, rules, and regulations.
Employment Standards:
1) Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, historic preservation or a degree in a related field and two years of planning or historic preservation experience; or a Master’s degree from an accredited Planning program with an internship with a public or planning agency; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties as listed.
2) ArcView GIS experience a plus.
Licensing: Valid Class C Driver’s License
