Job Summary:
The Estimator is responsible for appraising vehicle damage and determining repair costs to facilitate insurance claim settlements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Damage Assessment: Examine damaged vehicles to determine the extent of structural, body, mechanical, or interior damage.
- Cost Estimation: Estimate labor and parts costs required to repair or replace damaged components.
- Collaborative Review: Discuss repair cost estimates with the body shop manager or foreman to ensure accuracy and feasibility.
- Conflict Resolution: Arrange for a second appraisal if there is a disagreement with the body shop manager or foreman regarding repair costs.
- Repair vs. Replacement: Assess the feasibility of repairing parts versus replacing components such as bumpers, fenders, and doors.
- Repair Viability: Evaluate whether repairing the vehicle is practical compared to settling at the pre-accident market value.
- Salvage Assessment: Determine salvage value for vehicles deemed total losses.
- Insurance Documentation: Prepare insurance forms detailing repair cost estimates and providing recommendations.
- Customization Estimates: Estimate costs for repainting, converting vehicles for special purposes, or customizing undamaged vehicles.
