What are the responsibilities and job description for the CCSE Middle Science Teacher (6-8) SY 2025-2026 position at Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence?
Chattanooga Charter School of Excellence (CCSE) is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher to successfully educate students in science. Teachers must have a solid background in the science discipline, and in education. Experience with students that struggle with proficient reading levels is highly preferred.
CCSE seeks highly motivated teachers that are passionate about meeting students where they are academically and empowering them to learn and grow within their appropriate middle school science teacher standards to the greatest extent possible. Some of the responsibilities for a CCSE science teacher are outlined below:
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaches skills, knowledge, and scientific attitudes through courses in general science, earth sciences, biology, chemistry, physics, physiology, or science problems to secondary pupils, utilizing core curriculum and other appropriate learning activities approved by the Board of Education.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Plans a science program involving demonstrations, lectures, discussions, and student experiments; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning.
- Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific apparatus, experiments, and standard or teacher-prepared charts, sketches, and other instructional aids.
- Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects/experiments are being worked on concurrently.
- Instructs pupils in proper use, care, and safe handling of chemicals, equipment, and plant and animal life.
- Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials, equipment, and tools. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, and productive environment during class sessions, laboratory sessions, and field trips.
- Evaluates each pupil's growth in knowledge, skills, and scientific attitudes in course being taught.
- Selects and requests books, instructional aids, science equipment, chemicals, and supplies, and maintains inventory records as required.
- Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.

- Cooperates with the school administration in providing science displays and programs for the school and community, and in sponsoring science activities.
- Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
- Possession of valid teaching certification.
- Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years successful teaching experience (may include Student Teaching Internship experience).
- Command of grades/subject specific content and theoretical knowledge of learning theory, including motivation, reinforcement, evaluation and feedback techniques.
- Understanding of and commitment to company values.
- Successful results of criminal and employment background check.
- Possesses strong time management & organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, parents, the community, and administrative staff.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and displays such between all stakeholders: being courteous, professional, and helpful.
- Possesses excellent communication skills: Oral (including presentations), Written, Interpersonal (active listening), Negotiating and Influencing.
- Demonstrates proficient experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Student Information System (SIS) and email communications.
