What will a Truck Driver Light (F) do?
Truck Driver Light (F) ensures the safe and timely delivery of all merchandise and materials. This movement is usually between the ADC’s, stores and Distribution Center, but may include other locations as needed using a truck with capacity under 26,000 GVW.
Job Functions/ Competencies
- Through words and actions support Chattanooga Goodwill’s mission, Vision, and values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
- Maintain agency, employee, participants confidentiality. Violation of confidentiality may be cause for termination.
- Work assigned schedule:
- Reports daily as directed to receive schedule.
- Conducts inspection of assigned vehicle before, during and after daily trips as prescribed by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the organization.
- Completes daily vehicle inspection report and submits to management team members.
- Maintains accurate records and logs at all times and signs all necessary paperwork daily.
- Reports any damage or potential problem noticed with vehicle on the pre and post trips inspections.
- Operates vehicle safely and responsibly at all times:
- Practices safe loading and unloading to prevent movement, shifting load and allow safe transport per NHTSA requirements.
- Always chock wheels properly and secure the load.
- Never deviate from scheduled routes.
- Never use vehicle for personal use.
- Keeps the interior and exterior of vehicle clean.
- Does not have, use, or consume food, drink, or tobacco products in the vehicle.
- Does not operate a personal cell phone or other personal electronic devices in vehicle while driving.
- Installs and removes tire chains and other equipment as needed.
- Complies with GIGCA’s safety rules and performs all duties in a safe manner:
- Understands, complies with, and enforces all policies and procedures related to safety.
- Complies with Loss Prevention policies and procedures:
- Employee Purchase Policy.
- Code of Ethics, Compliance policy and Conflict of Interest policy.
- All policies related to Loss Prevention.
- Reports all accidents or damage to company vehicle or equipment immediately to supervisor and completes all necessary incident reports.
- Provides professional and courteous service to donors, vendors, and other Goodwill employees.
- Assists with the loading and unloading as needed at all locations serviced.
- Assures reasonable placement of merchandise in accordance with retail managers directions.
- Assures prompt removal of return merchandise.
- Handles all donations with care to prevent breakage or damage with proper packing techniques, materials, and blankets.
- Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Knowledge And Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; and at least one-year related experience.
- Must meet all the qualification requirements of and is not disqualified under the US Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Part 383 and 391.
- Thorough understanding of DOT, OSHA, TOSHA, NHTSA, regulations, codes and standards of local authorities.
- Must have knowledge of and comply with all FMCSA rules and regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance of equipment.
- Must be capable of working independently without constant supervision.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Driver license for 3 years.
- Valid Driver’s License and Car Insurance Verification, required.
- Must pass MVR check and maintain a good driving record.
- Excellent driving record and meets our insurance requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- A valid driver’s license, with ability to obtain F Endorsement, acceptable MVR to be insurable and current automobile insurance.
- Ability to operate various forklifts and other lifting devices and complete Chattanooga Goodwill certification process for use of said equipment.
- Ability to pass Department of Transportation Physical and Drug/Alcohol tests, including pre-employment screenings.
