What will a Maintenance Technician do?

The Maintenance Technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper maintenance and repair of our facilities, supporting a safe and efficient environment for our employees and program participants.

Job Functions

• Through words and actions support Chattanooga Goodwill’s Mission, Vision, and Values; furthermore, actions and decisions will align with organizational guiding principles.
• Maintain agency, employee, and participants confidentiality. Violation of confidentiality may result in termination.
• Routine Maintenance:
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry work.
  • Inspect and maintain building systems and equipment.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of facility infrastructure.
  • Travel required to company locations.
• Repairs and Troubleshooting:
  • Identify and diagnose maintenance issues and equipment malfunctions.
  • Effectively repair or coordinate repairs to resolve issues promptly.
  • Perform minor equipment installations and modifications.
• Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, protocols, and regulations.
  • Report safety hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts as needed.
• Record-Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders and repairs.
  • Update maintenance logs and documentation as required.
• Inventory Management:
  • Assist in monitoring and managing maintenance supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Notify supervisors when supplies need to be replenished.
• Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor and other team members to prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in coordinating with external vendors for specialized maintenance needs.
• Emergency Response:
  • Be available for after-hours and emergency response as required.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of emergency preparedness plans.

• Ability to travel and work on any GIGCA site while performing the essential functions of this position.
• Regular attendance is an essential function.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Key Knowledge And Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical or trade school certifications are a plus.
• Proven experience in facility maintenance, preferably in a similar role.
• Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry systems.
• Ability to diagnose and repair maintenance issues.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical stamina and ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Driver license for 3 years.
• Valid Driver’s License and Car Insurance Verification, required.
• Must pass MVR check and maintain a good driving record.

Performance Measurements

• Maintenance Task Completion:
  • Percentage of assigned maintenance tasks completed within the specified time frame.
  • Benchmark: 95% or higher task completion rate.
• Response Time:
  • Average time taken to respond to maintenance requests or work orders.
  • Benchmark: Respond to requests within 24 hours for non-emergencies; immediate response for emergencies.
• Quality of Repairs:
  • Number of callbacks or rework required due to incomplete or unsatisfactory repairs.
  • Benchmark: Minimize callbacks and rework; aim for 5% or less.
• Safety Adherence:
  • Number of safety violations or incidents attributed to the maintenance technician.
  • Benchmark: Maintain a safety record with no violations or incidents.
• Work Order Documentation:
  • Accuracy and completeness of work order documentation, including descriptions of work performed and parts used.
  • Benchmark: Maintain 100% accurate and complete work order records.
• Inventory Management:
  • Accuracy in tracking and managing maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Benchmark: Maintain inventory accuracy within 5% of target levels.
• Training and Certification:
  • Completion of required training and certification programs related to maintenance tasks.
  • Benchmark: Ensure 100% completion of necessary training and certifications.
• Energy Efficiency Initiatives:
  • Contribution to energy-saving initiatives, such as reporting and implementing energy-efficient practices.
  • Benchmark: Participate in at least one energy-saving initiative per quarter.
• Emergency Response:
  • Availability and readiness for after-hours and emergency maintenance response.
  • Benchmark: Respond to emergency situations within 1 hour.
• Customer Satisfaction:
  • Feedback from employees or program participants regarding the quality and timeliness of maintenance services.
  • Benchmark: Maintain a satisfaction rating of 90% or higher.
• Preventive Maintenance Compliance:
  • Percentage of scheduled preventive maintenance tasks completed on time.
  • Benchmark: 90% or higher preventive maintenance task completion rate.
• Cost Control:
  • Efficiency in resource utilization and ability to complete tasks within budget.
  • Benchmark: Stay within 5% of allocated maintenance budget.
• Communication and Teamwork:
  • Ability to effectively communicate with team members and supervisors.
  • Benchmark: Maintain open and effective communication within the maintenance team.
• Waste Reduction:
  • Efforts to minimize waste and promote recycling in maintenance activities.
  • Benchmark: Implement waste reduction practices and track progress.
