We have an opening for a 9-month tenure-track Anatomy & Physiology Faculty position at our Chattanooga State campus!

The role will be responsible for the following:
POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Dean of Math and Sciences and the Department Head of Science, the full-time faculty member has as their chief duty the instruction of Human Anatomy & Physiology. Anatomy & Physiology faculty teach classes that are scheduled during the day or evening, taught in a variety of formats (online asynchronous, on-ground, and virtual synchronous) and terms (15 and 7-weeks) and at several different locations, including off-campus sites and local high schools. The faculty member is expected to facilitate the classroom instructional process, evaluate students, monitor and communicate progress to students and to the appropriate college staff members, utilize the Learning Management System (LMS) and appropriate online educational systems, assign mid-term and final grades, maintain attendance and grade records, counsel and advise students regarding academic preparation and career goals, work to retain students, maintain required classroom, and office hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Teaching Excellence and Program Innovation

Serve as a member of the Science Department within the Math and Sciences Division for the Teaching Excellence strategic theme of the College’s Strategic Plan. In this role, the faculty member is responsible for the following:

Course and Curriculum Development:
Select texts, supplemental documents, supplies, and other learning resources, including Open Educational Resources (OER); develop supplemental instructional materials; use current technology in preparation, creation, and delivery of instruction
Create and revise courses and/or curricula as needed; maintain updated course syllabi

Professional Growth:
Remain current within the field of assigned instruction, related occupational areas and technologies
Acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials
Attend scheduled college, divisional, and departmental professional development and in-service activities, and participate in the annual faculty evaluation process

Service to Students:
Respect the rights of students and access to educational opportunities
Assist in recruitment, selection, orientation, and evaluation of potential students
Assist in formal and informal placement activities for employment and/or transfer to four-year institutions
Support student activities

Service to the College and Community:
Assist in the recruitment and selection of college personnel as assigned
Participate in accreditation, assessment, and performance funding processes
Support and participate in college/division/department committees, organizations, and/or task force groups to make recommendations in the College’s decision-making processes
Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues
Strengthen relationships between the college and the community through community outreach activities
Attend required college, division, and department meetings

Academic Advising

Support Academic Advising and Success Center
Stay current with the relevant Tennessee Transfer Pathways
Participate in regular reviews of relevant Tennessee Transfer Pathways

Holistic Student Support

Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services
Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices
Structure student experiences to ensure equity, belongingness, accessibility, and relevance in academic, student life, and co-curricular activities
Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts

Fiscal Stewardship

Supports the responsible fiscal stewardship of the funds allocated to the Science Department within the Math and Sciences Division

Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices

Embraces and promotes the College's goals related to organizational culture and belongingness and supports the Math and Sciences Division’s efforts to utilize best practices to provide equity-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff
Maintains an office environment that is open, inviting, and professional

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
An earned Master’s degree in Biology or an Anatomy and Physiology related field from a regionally accredited institution or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Biology or closely-related field or a professional degree (MD, DC, DO or other advanced clinical degree) awarded by a nationally accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching additional Biology courses in the department including General Biology, Nutrition, Human Biology, and Microbiology. Preference for candidates who have experience teaching anatomy and physiology lectures and labs in a community college setting and experience working with diverse populations.

Projected Salary Range:
Instructor: $40,502 - $49,610

Assistant Professor: $45,040 - $56,300

  • Pay will be determined based on experience and education in accordance with the salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents. To ensure consideration, all relevant work experience must be included in the application.*
