This internship is in-person and located in Chattanooga, TN. The selected canditate must reside in the Chattanooga, TN area. The Chattanooga Tourism Co. cannot provide housing or foreign student visas.
The Visitor Experience Intern, reporting to the Director of Event Operations, works closely on supporting the Visitor Experience team within the event operations and destination/visitor services functions at the Chattanooga Tourism Co. This is a non-exempt, internship position in a hybrid work environment in Chattanooga, TN, and the individual in this role must reside in the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The Summer/Fall internship is a two-semester internship, lasting from May through December. The Chattanooga Tourism Co. cannot provide housing or housing allowances or foreign student visas.
In this role, success for you means:
Supporting the successful execution and servicing of sports, meetings and conventions, and Tourism Co. events by:
- Learning and implementing the processes and roles of successful event management.
- Learning and implementing the processes and roles of successful destination and visitor services.
- Cross-functional participation within the entire organization to continuously build your skillset to help optimize the visitor experience function.
Day to day you will:
Work as a member of the Visitor Experience team to:
- Assist with account data collection, entry and reporting within the CRM for both the event and destination services team.
- Support in creating and executing event management plans for owned events, including the execution of a robust volunteer management plan.
- Support activation of event and destination and visitor services marketing and services, such as event microsites, digital communications, and client gifts.
- Work with the marketing team to capture content aligned to social media strategy for identified events.
- Effectively manage internal and external relationships to collaboratively create and align efforts for a unified brand voice.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Event Operations, VP of Visitor Experience, CEO, or COO.
Details
- The internship is typically 20 hours per week. Some large events require more than 20 hours per week.
- This is a paid internship and we are happy to work around your class schedule and complete the required documentation for your internship. We cannot guarantee more than 240 hours of credit per semester.
- While the Summer/Fall internship is structured as a two-semester internship, we may consider candidates who are only able to work one of the two semesters.
Education and Experience
- Must be a current undergraduate student or recent graduate (within the past one year).
- Enrollment in or graduate of Sports, Outdoor Recreation, and Tourism (SORT), Hospitality Management, Marketing, Communications, or Business Administration degree programs preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal, written & public presentation communication skills
- Proficiency across social media platforms
- Familiar with basic customer relationship management (CRM) software applications
Physical Requirements*
- A complete range of motion is required in the position including but not limited to: balancing, carrying, climbing, crawling, grasping/handling/feeling, kneeling, lifting (up to 35 lbs.), listening, pulling or pushing, reaching, running, seeing, sitting, standing, stooping, talking, walking, etc.
- A valid, unrestricted driver’s license, access to a reloable vehicle, and vehicle insurance are required.
Work Environment

- The typical work environment is an environmentally controlled business office with core business hours of 8:30am – 5:00pm
- Occasional earlier morning, later evenings and weekend assignments
- Off-site work during special events
