CHQ Assembly is Chautauqua Institution’s video streaming channel that connects a global population of lifelong learners to collectively explore the world’s most challenging issues and imagine solutions. CHQ Assembly produces live and on-demand programs from Chautauqua Institution’s 9-week summer assembly, as well as other projects supporting its mission. The department is divided into a roving production team and a live broadcast team who typically work a 6-day schedule with hours based on production needs. We are seeking a talented and creative cinematographer to join our summer production team.
About Your Compensation
Compensation for this position starts at $15.50 / Hour and, with demonstrated experience and qualifications, candidates may earn higher.
About Your Work Day
- Serve as PTZ Robotic Cameras Operator for CHQ Assembly live broadcasts.
- Serve as cinematographer for Remote Production Team operating cameras for special assignments.
- Ensure remote camera systems are properly set up, tested, and normalled prior to events.
- Use provided production documents to follow run of show.
- Follow event content closely to produce maximum visual quality.
- Maintain high quality and adherence to all visual standards set by the department.
- Ability to quickly and efficiently provide camera framing, as requested.
- Maintain camera equipment with weekly cleaning and testing.
- Work closely with The Executive Producer, Directors, and Live Video Technician to set shots prior to, and during events.
- Work collaboratively in a broadcast control room with 2-3 other engineers.
- Work collaboratively in a small team for special production assignments and recording.
- Manage equipment within the venue environment safely and confidently. Can include lifting up to 50 pounds, work at elevated heights, climb ladders, stairs; sit or stand for long periods of time (75 minutes) with minimal breaks between consecutive productions; working in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Attend scheduled department meetings.
- Work asynchronously with colleagues across the organization to achieve program goals.
- Engage graciously with patrons and other constituents.
- Other assignments as necessary.
About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and / or holidays as a requirement. While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position :
This position requires a six-day work week up to 40 hours per week with some scheduled overtime as necessary. Scheduled hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on production needs.

About the Referral Program
Chautauqua Institution’s Referral Bonus Program is a talent solution to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse workforce that encompasses all the skills and experience necessary to deliver on our goals and objectives. Chautauqua Institution will provide a $500 referral bonus (less taxes) for active employees referring a new candidate who is hired and remains employed for at least 90-days from the first physical date of work. In the case of seasonal positions working less than 6-months, the new candidate must remain actively employed for at least 30-days from the first physical date of work and until the closing date of the season. The closing date of the season is the last Sunday in August.
