Position Summary:
The Pastry Chef is responsible for overseeing all aspects of pastry and dessert production at Chebeague Island Inn. This includes the preparation and presentation of high-quality pastries, desserts, and baked goods for the inn’s dining services, ensuring consistency, creativity, and high standards of quality. The Pastry Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to design and implement dessert menus that reflect the coastal charm and rustic elegance of the property.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare, bake, and decorate pastries, cakes, cookies, breads, and other desserts according to recipes and the inn’s standards.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary team to develop new dessert menu items that complement the inn’s seasonal offerings.
- Execute continental breakfast offerings, ensuring a selection of freshly baked pastries, breads, and accompaniments are available for guests each morning.
- Ensure the highest quality and presentation of desserts served to guests, maintaining the inn's reputation for excellence.
- Monitor inventory levels for all baking ingredients and supplies, ensuring proper storage and rotation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry kitchen and adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- Supervise and train pastry kitchen staff, ensuring consistent preparation methods and quality standards.
- Ensure timely production and delivery of pastries and desserts for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special events.
- Assist with seasonal menu planning and adjustments as needed, keeping in mind guest preferences and dietary requirements.
- Support the wider culinary team during busy service periods when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Pastry Chef or in a similar role within a fine dining or boutique hotel environment.
- Culinary degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, baking methods, and dessert presentation.
- Creative with an eye for detail and a passion for seasonal ingredients.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of food safety standards and health regulations.
Physical Requirements:

Working Conditions:
