Kids’ Place Director Job Description:
The person in this position will oversee management of the Kids’ Place Program including the facility, teachers, and DHHS licensing requirements. This person will spend up to 20 hours per week on management and administration and with the remainder spent during direct care and working directly with students and families.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all state daycare licensing requirements, (illness, Immunizations, up to date records etc.)
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with all employee law regulations.
- Ensure that each teacher has up-to-date Adult/Pediatric First Aid/CPR training and fingerprinting.
- Maintain confidential personnel files with relevant information.
- Manage student enrollment with Kids’ Place Coordinator
- Schedule bi-annual parent/child conferences
- Create job postings and post via multiple avenues locally and on the web for new hire positions.
- Respond to candidate inquiries.
- Schedule onsite interviews and follow up visit, conduct interviews, conduct reference checks, recommends candidates for hire to the Board, makes employment offer to the candidate.
- Ensure staffing compliance with annual professional development training required.
- Ensure accuracy of time sheet and hours, sign off on timesheet, and document employee hours in payroll.
- Make supply purchases within an annual budget.
- Maintain and update children’s records with relevant info.
- Oversee student calendar and teacher schedule to make sure teacher: child ratio is compliant.
- Foster relationships with substitute teachers and engage substitute teachers as necessary to allow for each teacher’s paid time off/sick days. This may include early morning calls or schedule changes in advance.
- Monitor tuition revenue and follow up with parents that haven't paid, adjust payment for non-holiday closures.
- Supervise staff on an ongoing basis to ensure that they adhere to Employee Handbook and all CRC Board policies.
- Communicate Board policies to teachers.
- Make recommendations to CRC Board and Kids’ Place Committee concerning Employee policy.
- Coordinate Staff meetings weekly and as needed.
- Conduct performance reviews and note achievements in employees’ file.
- Recommend bonuses based on performance to CRC Board and Kids’ Place Committee.
- Recommend changes to benefits or personnel policy to CRC Board and Kids’ Place Committee.
- Oversee cleaning and maintenance of the building and grounds and work with the Kids’ Place Committee as needed to achieve capital improvement goals.
- Take Disciplinary action as needed (warning, termination, etc.) in conjunction with Kids’ Place Committee and CRC Board.
- Conduct New Hire Orientation/Training.
- Seek opportunities to operate KP cost effectively.
- Organize and lead Kids’ Place Committee meetings monthly.
- Manage Volunteers.
- Organize and/or support fundraising efforts.
- Seek additional private funding and maintain donor stewardship
Beyond Management duties
- Direct, guide, and develops/trains staff on age-appropriate programming and routines for children, including indoor/outdoor activities.
- Communication with parents - on programming, what is happening at KP, staff updates, staff schedule changes.
- Involvement in any ongoing teacher or student conflicts.
- Communication with the Community
- Work with Lead Teacher and Kids’ Place Coordinator to organize community outreach opportunities or school collaboration (library, Commons, Halloween walk, book buddies).
- Plan summer programming - Includes: advertising, managing enrollment, managing paperwork/necessary for children's files, managing revenue tuition, billing for summer families, creating programs, hiring employees to support summer programming, background checks, employee files.
- Responsible for addressing building maintenance issues (cleaning, shoveling, ordering sand/salt for walkways, spring/fall cleanups, getting rid of broken toys, updating developmentally appropriate toys).
Pay:
$22-$24 based on experience
About the Kids' Place and the Chebeague Recreation Center:
Chebeague Recreation Center and Kids’ Place are located on Chebeague Island, a short 15-minute ferry ride from Cousins Island (parking and ferry paid for as part of the position) with numerous ferry times per day. The Chebeague Recreation Center engages members of all ages in the community in child, youth, teen, and adult programming. The organization also promotes the health of the community with a seasonal pool, weight room, and varied exercise programs. The Kids' Place is a successful, licensed early childhood education program that is a division of the Chebeague Recreation Center. It prides itself on low child to teacher ratios and engages kids from 6 weeks to 12 years old on a drop in, part-time, and full-time basis. Each day is filled with free play, circle time, and activities geared towards age-appropriate development. Most importantly, children learn to problem solve, share, and engage in purposeful play together. Every day they sing songs, read, play outside and work on arts and crafts. The program focuses on outdoor and island exploration as much as possible and foster a love for the outdoors and our environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Proven experience in management and education administration
- Strong leadership skills to guide and support a team
- Ability to develop and implement strategic plans
- Experience in budgeting and financial management
