Job Description

Sales Director at Checkout.com

Reporting into our Head of North America, the Sales Director will lead and mentor a team of high-performing sales professionals focused on acquiring and growing mid-market clients across North America. This role requires a proven track record of success in leading sales teams, exceeding revenue targets, and building strong relationships with key decision-makers within mid-market organizations. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of the payments landscape and a passion for driving growth in a dynamic environment.

How you’ll make impact :

  • Build, mentor, and motivate a team of mid-market sales professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert internally and externally on payments and the wider ecosystem by working closely with teams across Marketing, Partnerships, Solutions Engineering, Customer Success, Operations, Product, Technology, and People to optimize processes, roadmaps, collaboration and productivity.
  • Work in close partnership with our wider Commercial team to align Marketing and Sales in generating strong leads, driving engagement and ultimately closing increased deal volume.
  • Deliver the necessary structure, cadence, quality and discipline to create professionalized, scalable and world-class commercial capability.

Qualifications

  • Global Commercial Experience : Strong track record of building and leading a commercial team while being part of a larger global commercial organization. Will have managed teams and delivered exceptional results in a best-in-class environment. Will ideally bring deep knowledge and understanding of both payments and enterprise ecosystems.
  • Mid-Market Focus : Demonstrated experience selling to and managing relationships with mid-market clients.
  • Leadership and Team Management : Will be an inspiring, engaging people leader and communicator able to set a vision and bring people with them. Will have a proven track record in attracting, recruiting, managing and developing talent, as well as running high-performing, inclusive commercial teams. Will be able to present a vision and attain buy-in from internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Will be highly effective at cross-functional stakeholder management, and a strong and credible contributor to executive team decision-making.
  • Commercial, Analytical and Data-Driven : Will be both experienced and credible in building valuable relationships with senior leaders / decision-makers in enterprise businesses. Will have a strong sense of financial acumen and analytical skills with a structured problem-solving and data-driven approach to metrics.
  • Growth and Scale-Up Experience : Will have operated in a high-growth environment and understand what it takes to operate in growth mode, sometimes with lean resources, and be able to cope with the ambiguity and change associated with a fast-paced, pre-IPO company. Intellectually curious and eager to learn. Passionate about the FinTech and payments sectors.
  • Strategic and Close to the Detail : Will have a strategic mind-set, but will also adopt a hands-on approach, and be close to the detail, as needed. Will be exceptional at driving prioritization across an increasingly complex and evolving product portfolio.
  • Payments SME : Will understand Checkout.com’s competitive landscape and know what separates a stellar Enterprise payments partner from a mediocre one. Will ideally bring a track record of growing “share of wallet” and driving incremental revenue growth (i.e. from cross-sell / up-sell opportunities) as well as net new growth.
  • Additional Information

    California law requires Checkout.com to include in job postings a reasonable estimated salary range for this position. However, exact compensation may vary subject to several factors such as a candidate’s level, relevant experience, qualifications, skills and proficiency for the role.

    The information provided here is applicable to those working in the San Francisco office. However, this role may also be open to applicants from other US locations and will be advised on the relevant pay for that location.

    For regular full-time employees in San Francisco, the estimated base salary for this role is $185,000 to $215,000 per year. Additionally, this role is eligible to earn uncapped commission.
