If you love kids and cooking, then this is the job for you! Successful candidates will be assigned to various locations for fun camps with kids. Camps are coming up fast. Campers want awesomeness in their instructors. Depending upon your availability there are morning and/or afternoon camps. Campers age from 7 and up.

Camps are from 9am - noon; and 1pm - 4pm. Each camp is at one location per week. Each location has multiple camps scheduled with us for the summer.

Chefsville goes the extra mile to build a job around the candidate's available hours.

Duties include tasks of gathering supplies, ingredients, recipes, and activities for each camp session.

Each camp will have at least 2 staff members assigned to each program consisting of one lead instructor and one assistant instructor. Additional assistant instructors assigned based on the number of campers registered.

As our company name implies, cooking is our main focus, however we offer physical activity at our camps as well along with teaching aids and games that reinforce problem solving, common sense and critical thinking skills.

Optional: If candidate is available for weekends, there could be programs such as Saturday cooking classes, scouting programs, library and birthday parties. Chefsville offers flexible schedules so this an ideal job for college students.

Job Locations: Range from Allen to Grapevine. Funds will be provided to candidates for gas for any extra driving.

Duties include planning, acquisition, preparation of materials and supplies needed programs.

Qualifications: High school diploma or GED plus relevant work experience. Candidates must have completed high school. Some college preferred. Must be at least 18 years old. Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet camp staffing needs. A degree program will be considered. Successful candidates need to enjoy cooking and have interest in educating kids about food and health.

Other experience with summer camp and volunteering with kids counts as experience.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check in order to work with children,
  • Common sense with business,

  • Candidate must be willing to sign a Non-Disclosure and Non-Compete Agreements

Responsibilities include leading a group of students to explore exciting adventures with food! Work collaboratively with peers to build children’s sense of curiosity and creativity. Successfully provide a caring, family-friendly environment where positive relationships can be built. Camp instructors are responsible for planning and implementing program directives. Some instructors will be assigned shopping, gathering coordination of equipment, recipes, educational materials and game materials.

Other skills: Computer literacy required. People skills required. Microsoft Office products preferred. Candidate must have access to computer, internet, and printer. Job duties involve occasional use of technology. Cooking basics needed.

Typical Day:

Preparation includes having a plan consisting of 2 recipes, activity or teaching aids and game(s) for each session. Each week a different camp theme will start. On monday's it is required to arrive 1/2 hour before camp time in order to check everything and be setup ready. This may include setting up a few tables and chairs, unloading ingredients, and organizing recipes and activities for the camp session. Parents will come in and complete a registration/allergy form and inform us of any issues their child(ren) may have such as ADD/ADHD, picky eater, food sensitivities, etc. If we collect a supply fee at a camp, that is when parents will turn it in and we record it on their registration that it has been paid.

We start 7-10 minutes to be sure we have everyone with roster, introduce staff and 1st day of each week has food safety for the first segment. The remainder is dividing campers into groups and letting them follow instructions to make recipe, we do play games and while things are cooking we do activities and teaching aids. These could be skills development or skills drills, imagination and/or discovery of ingredients, equipment and cultures.

Clean up is the responsiblity of the camp instructors to teach the kids, and encourage 100% participation in clean up. At session's end, there are still clean up items, and putting away all of our ingredients, equipment and checking the room. Sink must be clean and dry. Floor swept, room to be readied for the next activity usually by another activity provider.

There may be a trip needed to the store to pick up ingredients for the next day. For staff who are more organized, they may only shop twice a week for ingredients and to swap small equipment.

As needed, phone calls are made where suggestions and hints are given to make each week easy for staff and campers.

Dismissal - very important - parents/guardians come to pick up their kiddos. They usually wait outside our program camp area for after the program to pick up kids and see from us how they did.

Time is paid for most planning, preparation, shopping, arriving early and clean-up.
