The job of the School Psychologist is to use leadership and collaboration skills to promote data based analysis of student needs for additional support and the educational development of each student.

Performance Responsibilities :

  • Provide evidence of high, sincere interest in students, staff, families, community members, and academic programs of the schools
  • Provide strong, capable leadership in areas of assignment
  • Establish rapport, communicate and collaborate effectively with students, staff, families and community members
  • Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning
  • Demonstrate effective conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Coordinate psychological and educational testing activities conducted for the purpose of special education eligibility determination, as well as provides information supporting the development of appropriate educational programs to special education case managers
  • Provide direct services and intervention for students receiving special education services as required for their success, including proactive strategies such as social skills education, individual student interventions, behavioral contracts, etc.
  • Demonstrate commitment to students, staff, families, community members and the special education program
  • Promote a safe, positive learning environment by developing trust, communication, and collaboration with students, staff, families and community members
  • Provide structures and processes for data-based decision making to permit staff, students and families to participate as appropriate in developing and accomplishing individual education plans for students requiring special education, including supporting access to co-curricular programs for students based on their needs and interests
  • Encourage staff development through problem solving and support for case managers
  • Maintain proper credentials; continue professional preparation and advanced training; hold membership in professional organizations; participate and teach in workshops and seminars, when possible
  • Communicate and cooperate with other special education staff to achieve district goals
  • Assist with the development of instructional and / or behavioral goals and objectives
  • Function as a case manager during multidisciplinary meetings and within assigned schools
  • Conduct parent and / or parent-student conferences to interpret student assessment results
  • Provide training / in-service on strategies for working with students with behavior problems
  • Observe students with behavioral issues and design intervention strategies, such as Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Intervention Plans, or individualized strategies, in collaboration with the case manager and other school staff
  • Assume responsibility for coordinating and collaborating with district and building staff and outside agencies for medical documentation, transition services and professional collaboration
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs within the context of a building-level multidisciplinary team
  • Keep abreast of special education trends and case law, and apply this research to district special education programs
  • Articulate special education visions and goals to regular education and special education staff
  • Assist in developing and implementing Childfind activities
  • Use multiple student data elements to evaluate the educational needs of students, within established special education processes
  • Actively participate in activities at the state and federal levels
  • Give demonstrable effort toward improvement when needed
  • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Complete work at assigned workstation(s)
  • Consistently deals with people in a courteous and professional manner
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications :

  • Washington State ESA certification as a School Psychologist
  • School counseling certification preferred
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint / Background clearance
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Demonstrated successful leadership and management qualities
  • Working knowledge of rules, regulations, and laws governing special education
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, families, community members, administration and support personnel
  • Demonstrated understanding of strategies for working with social, emotional, and behavior needs
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Skills, Knowledge and / or Abilities Required :

  • Skills to promote improvement in core subject areas, motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, and evaluate performance
  • Willingness to learn curriculum, education code, district policies
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, families, and other school personnel, meet schedule and deadlines; significant physical abilities may include lifting / carrying 25 lbs., reaching / handling, talking / hearing conversations, near / far visual acuity / depth perception / accommodation / field of vision.

    Compensation and Benefits :

    Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the CEA Bargaining Agreement . See Article XIII Economic Provisions, Article VII Leaves, Appendix O. 2024-25 school year rates listed. 2025-26 school year rates TBD.

If eligible, SEBB benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, AD&D Insurance, Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSA), and Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP). Retirement benefits, if eligible, may include membership in TRS retirement plans in addition to voluntary Deferred Compensation Program and 403(b) Annuity enrollments. Paid time off is also outlined in the CEA Bargaining Agreement.
